Boehner Dismisses Ted Cruz's 'Total Nonsense' On Budget Deal

Breitbart -- Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” former Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) criticisms of his budget deal with President Barack Obama as a “complete and utter surrender” is “total nonsense.”

Boehner said, “That’s just total nonsense. This is — we got real entitlement reform in this agreement. We’ve got a big group of members who need more money for our national defense. And all the increases in spending are offset with spending reductions elsewhere in the government.”

On working with Obama, he added, “At the end of the day it’s about doing the best we can, considering those things, on behalf of the American people. So, we had a lot of conversations. Some were better than others.”
Blog Author's Comments -- John Boehner has done enough damage to the American people during his time as Speaker of the House. The GOP will do what they always do when they've included "cuts to spending" in the budget deal, they will only be realized several years in the future. Last week, Ted Cruz called Boehner’s sweeping bipartisan budget deal a “golden parachute” for the departing Speaker and “a slap in the face to conservatives.” I must agree with Ted Cruz.

Poll: 60% Of Republicans Want Boehner Out As Speaker

Truth Revolt -- As the new Congress prepares to convene and elect a new speaker, a recently released telephone survey reveals that 60 percent of Republican voters want to give current speaker John Boehner the boot and bring in some new blood.

Conducted by conservative pollster Pat Caddell, the poll shows that just 25 percent of Republican voters are in favor of keeping Boehner as speaker. As noted by Conservative Review, no major party leader has polled this low among their own base unless "embroiled in a major scandal," which essentially means that House Republicans set to vote on Tuesday will have much explaining to do should they decide to disappoint their constituents yet again.

Furthermore, when voters were asked whether or not they felt Boehner had been ineffective opposing President Obama's agenda, a whopping 64 percent agreed he had been ineffective.

Democrats have already shown they're in favor of keeping the status-quo, having already re-elected Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as minority leaders to the House and Senate. Will Republicans follow their lead or shake up the establishment?
Blog author's comments - If there are enough GOP House members who do have plans to replace Boehner the sooner the better. The poll was only 60% I am amazed it was not much higher. The voters in Ohio who reelected him must not follow politics very closely and don't realize what he has done as The Speaker of the House.

He has been the worst Speaker in my lifetime. My vote as the man to replace him would be Congressman Trey Gowdy (SC). John Boehner allows Obama to use him as a doormat. He is a disgrace to the Republican Party, but I will be very surprised if he is replaced.

Obama Says He Will Use Executive Action To Address Immigration System

NPR -- President Obama says he is going to use executive action to deal with what he says is a broken immigration system.

While I will continue to push Republicans to drop excuses and act," Obama said, "Americans cannot wait forever for them to act."

Obama made the announcement at the White House Rose Garden on Monday. He said he will begin "a new effort to fix the immigration system on my own, without Congress."

Obama announced one piece of concrete action — that he would move some immigration enforcement assets from the interior of the country to the border. He said his Cabinet will meet and by the end of the summer, it will bring him recommendations for executive actions.

Obama added that he made the decision a year after the Senate passed an immigration reform bill and after House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, told him that he would not push for a vote on an immigration overhaul bill this year.

This is, of course, also a controversial move by the president, because it was just last week that Boehner threatened to sue Obama over his executive actions. Republicans have long complained that Obama is running afoul of the Constitution by taking executive action instead of pursuing legislation.

President Obama also received a rebuke from the Supreme Court, which decided last week that he had overstepped his powers while making appointments to the National Labor Relations Board while the Senate was in a pro forma session.

Obama's announcement also comes amid a crisis at the Southern border, which has seen an almost 100 percent year-to-year increase in the number of unaccompanied minors crossing into the United States illegally. As we reported Sunday, Obama is asking Congress for more than $2 billion to stem the tide of migrants and says the executive needs more flexibility in deportation laws to be able to quickly deport non-Mexican children.

In a statement, Boehner said executive orders won't solve the problems with the country's immigration system.

"The crisis at our southern border reminds us all of the critical importance of fixing our broken immigration system," Boehner said. "It is sad and disappointing that – faced with this challenge – President Obama won't work with us, but is instead intent on going it alone with executive orders that can't and won't fix these problems."
Blog author's comments - The first action that should be taken to address the illegal immigration problem is to close our borders. And the GOP controlled House wants to do this. But a stand alone bill on only borders would not pass in the Senate, and I doubt that Harry Reid would even bring it up for a vote.

Illegal immigrants who will work have taken jobs away from current citizens. But I believe a majority of illegals will not even seek work but go on the government dole. Illegals are helping to ruin our schools, driving up the cost of health care, and commit a huge amount of crime. Most can't read, write, or speak English. Illegal immigration and the disaster on the border will turn the tide against immigration reform until the border is secure.

The majority of Americans do not want their country flooded with illegals which is what is happening now. But Obama and the Democrats view all illegals as future Democratic Party voters. Everyone has seen how Obama and the AG Eric Holder have not allowed laws in the border states such as Arizona to attempt to curtail the illegals, or to check if one is legal during a traffic stop by asking to see their papers to verify their status.

Obama believes he should be able to do whatever he wants via 'executive orders'. The immigration bill the Senate sent to the House for passage was not a serious bill. Perhaps someone should tell Obama that he is not the dictator of America. The man cannot be trusted and the Constitution means very little to him.

Boehner: House Won't Use Its Power To Arrest Lois Lerner

The Hill -- The House has held Lois Lerner in contempt, but it won’t use its power to place the former IRS official under arrest, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said on Sunday.

Under a precedent affirmed by the Supreme Court, each chamber of Congress can authorize its sergeant-at-arms to detain individuals it holds in contempt. But Boehner said on "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo" on Fox News that he has no interest in doing that with Lerner, whom the House last week voted to hold in contempt over her refusal to testify about her role in the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups.

“I’m not sure we want to go down that path,” Boehner said. “It’s never been used,” he said of the provision allowing Congress to arrest individuals and place them in the Capitol jail. The Senate has in fact used that power, but not in the last 80 years. “I’m not sure that it’s an appropriate way to go about this,” Boehner said.

The contempt charge has been referred to the Justice Department, and Boehner said it is up to Attorney General Eric Holder to prosecute Lerner.

“Now will he do it? We don’t know, but the ball is in his court,” Boehner said.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington has said it is reviewing the referral. Lerner has repeatedly invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, but the House contends she waived that right by defending herself in an opening statement at a House hearing last year before she refused to answer questions from lawmakers.
Blog author's comments - So Boehner won't issue an arrest warrant for Lerner if Holder fails to prosecute her. The GOP controlled House apparently will do nothing about the IRS head Lois Lerner who was deeply involved in the IRS's targeting of conservative groups and held in contempt by the House. But Boehner passes any decision on what Lerner is guilty of or punishment for what she did to Eric Holder's DOJ.

Eric Holder himself was held in contempt of Congress for failing to produce documents subpoenaed by Congress in connection with the Fast and Furious gun-running investigation. Does anyone think Lerner will receive any penalty imposed for wrongdoing for what she did by the DOJ? I don't believe Lerner initiated what the IRS did. I think she was told what to do by perhaps Harry Reid and President Obama. So along with Fast and Furious the IRS scandal will go ignored and most of the voters will forget about them.

Those who want to be our leaders are the first to run when faced with any serious battle. When you are fighting for the country and your political party, you use every weapon at your disposal. The Democrats understand this, it would be nice if our Republican leaders also figured this out. Boehner doesn't have the leadership ability or the courage to stand up to the Obama administration or the liberal press. The only reason I can see John Boehner taking the position he has, is to put the onus on the Attorney General Eric Holder to treat the case against Lois Lerner with the seriousness it deserves.

Boehner Names Trey Gowdy To Lead Select Benghazi Panel

Washington D.C. -- House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) announced today that he has chosen Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC) to serve as chairman of the select committee to investigate the 2012 tragedy in Benghazi, Libya.

“With four of our countrymen killed at the hands of terrorists, the American people want answers, accountability, and justice. Trey Gowdy is as dogged, focused, and serious-minded as they come. His background as a federal prosecutor and his zeal for the truth make him the ideal person to lead this panel. I know he shares my commitment to get to the bottom of this tragedy and will not tolerate any stonewalling from the Obama administration. I plan to ensure he and his committee have the strongest authority possible to root out all the facts. This is a big job, but Rep. Gowdy has the confidence of this conference, and I know his professionalism and grit will earn him the respect of the American people.”

NOTE: Last week, in response to the release of emails showing the White House was more involved in misleading the American people than previously known and the revelation that the Obama administration had withheld these documents from a Congressional subpoena, Speaker Boehner announced that he was establishing a new select committee to investigate the events surrounding the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012.

New Benghazi Documents Reveal White House Hid Truth From Congress

Blog author's comments - Finally Boehner does the right thing by appointing Trey Gowdy to investigate the Obama/Clinton Benghazi cover-up. Hopefully Gowdy, who is a take no prisoners lawmaker, can cut through some of the lies and stone walling by the Obama administration. Obama really did not care about the four dead Americans; he was more concerned about the Benghazi attack prior to his own election. He put politics before the truth. Instead of protecting our diplomats, the Obama administration was more concerned about protecting the perception of not having a foreign policy failure.

House Conservatives Plot To Oust Boehner Next Year

National Journal -- Several dozen frustrated House conservatives are scheming to infiltrate the GOP leadership next year—possibly by forcing Speaker John Boehner to step aside immediately after November's midterm elections.

The conservatives' exasperation with leadership is well known. And now, in discreet dinners at the Capitol Hill Club and in winding, hypothetical-laced email chains, they're trying to figure out what to do about it. Some say it's enough to coalesce behind—and start whipping votes for—a single conservative leadership candidate. Others want to cut a deal with Majority Leader Eric Cantor: We'll back you for speaker if you promise to bring aboard a conservative lieutenant.

But there's a more audacious option on the table, according to conservatives involved in the deliberations. They say between 40 and 50 members have already committed verbally to electing a new speaker. If those numbers hold, organizers say, they could force Boehner to step aside as speaker in late November, when the incoming GOP conference meets for the first time, by showing him that he won't have the votes to be reelected in January.

The masterminds of this mutiny are trying to stay in the shadows for as long as possible to avoid putting a target on their backs. But one Republican said the "nucleus"of the rebellion can be found inside the House Liberty Caucus, of which he and his comrades are members. This is not surprising, considering that some of the key players in that group—Justin Amash of Michigan, Raul Labrador of Idaho, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky—were among the 12 Republicans who refused to back Boehner's reelection in January 2013.

Amash, chairman of the Liberty Caucus, warned at the time that there would be a "larger rebellion" down the road if Boehner's leadership team did not bring conservatives into the fold. Such an insurrection never materialized, however, as Boehner deftly navigated a series of challenges last year and wound up winning over some of the malcontents.

But conservatives, increasingly irritated with what they see as a cautious approach taken by their leadership, are now adamant that Boehner's tenure should expire with this Congress.

"There are no big ideas coming out of the conference. Our leadership expects to coast through this election by banking on everyone's hatred for Obamacare," said one Republican lawmaker who is organizing the rebellion. "There's nothing big being done. We're reshuffling chairs on the Titanic."

Blog author's comments - Yes, please replace John Boehner with someone who is against Obamacare, socialism, amnesty, the gay agenda and a plethora of other issues Boehner has failed us on. And don’t give the job to Eric Cantor, he would be the same as Boehner.

If the conservatives are serious about ousting John Boehner as Speaker I would nominate Trey Gowdy of South Carolina. From what I have heard and seen from Gowdy I believe he would make a good Speaker of the House. What I am wondering is why would someone who wants to rid the House of the Speaker let the media know about it? I am certainly ready to replace John Boehner, but I have doubts that it will happen.

Poll: 58% Of GOP Oppose Citizenship For Illegals

Washington Examiner -- Republican leaders eyeing immigration reform have been shaken by new polling that shows a majority of their supporters oppose immigration reform, the Dream Act and citizenship.

“The leadership should run from this one,” said a key House leadership advisor.

According to a new YouGov poll, Republican voters are strongly opposed to the so-called “pathway to citizenship,” which some interpret as amnesty even if immigrants have to pay a fine. According to YouGov, 58 percent of Republicans oppose “providing a legal way for illegal immigrants already in the United States to become U.S. citizens.”

It breaks down this way among Republicans: 33 percent don’t want illegals to be given any legal status, 23 percent would grant only temporary residency, 13 percent would grant permanent residency but not citizenship, and 27 percent would create a pathway to citizenship.

Democrats have long supported immigration reform and have been rewarded with votes from legal immigrants, making the issue extremely partisan.

The poll provides more ammo to those in the GOP urging House Speaker John Boehner and other leaders to back away from the issue until after the midterm elections.

Entire column > >
Blog author’s comments – John Boehner are you paying attention? We do not want the illegals given amnesty. We have laws they should follow if they want to become a legal citizen of the United States. I am surprised the percentage is only 58%. And despite the talking points of the left, I have a feeling that a high percentage of Democrat citizens, not lawmakers, also oppose illegal immigration.

I suspect this is another issue that the low information/intelligence voters simply do not understand which is the effect this would have on them and what it would cost the country. This is much like Obamacare, they'll understand it after it impacts them which will be too late. The only illegal immigration bill the GOP should be working on is to secure the borders.

But chances for a broad immigration bill to pass this year took a major hit Thursday when House Speaker John Boehner ruled out any action until President Obama proves to Republicans’ satisfaction that he is serious about enforcing the laws and no longer will try to work around Congress. I must assume the pressure Boehner has been feeling has changed his mind at least for the time being. Obama will promise whatever he thinks will satisfy the Republicans, but he has lied many times before. The White House still remains optimistic that the GOP will pass a bill that will grant some kind of legal status for illegal immigrants.

From what I'm reading, not many believe that Boehner won't pass amnesty, even if he has to wait until after the elections to do so. He has created as much distrust of the Republican leadership as he is claiming the House membership feels about Obama. This issue for the Democrats is not and never has been to secure the borders, it is to increase the voter base for the Democratic Party. I hope Boehner's price for pushing this is enough to warrant losing his Speakership if the GOP holds the House.

House Leaders Campaign For Amnesty

Politico -- CAMBRIDGE, Md. — The House Republican leadership is trying to sell their colleagues on a series of broad immigration principles, including a path to legal status for those here illegally.

Speaker John Boehner’s leadership team introduced the principles at their annual policy retreat here. Top Republicans circulated a tightly held one-page memo titled “standards for immigration reform” toward the tail-end of a day that include strategy conversations about Obamacare, the economy and the national debt.

In the private meeting where the language was introduced, Boehner (R-Ohio) told Republicans that the standards are “as far as we are willing to go.”

”Nancy Pelosi said yesterday that for her caucus, it is a special path to citizenship or nothing,” Boehner said, according to a source in the room. “If Democrats insist on that, then we are not going to get anywhere this year.”

Boehner said the standards represent “a fair, principled way for us to solve this issue.”

The strategy marks a shift for House Republicans. In 2013, Boehner’s chamber ignored the bipartisan immigration reform bill passed by the Senate. But toward the end of last year and early this year, Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) began hashing out this approach to rally Republicans toward reform.

“It’s important to act on immigration reform because we’re focused on jobs and economic growth, and this is about jobs and growth,” Boehner said in his pitch in the closed meeting. “Reform is also about our national security. The safety and security of our nation depends on our ability to secure our border, enforce our laws, improve channels for legal entry to the country, and identify who is here illegally.”

Entire column > >
Blog author’s comments – What the Republican ‘leadership’ is doing is insane. Just when they have a good chance of both retaining the House and perhaps winning control of the Senate, they now believe that passing an immigration bill will help the party and the country. Instead of continuing to campaign on what Obama and the Democrats have already done to America with Obamacare, they take the focus off of that and want to pass an immigration reform bill which the majority of the people do not want.

This could well be the end of the Republican Party. We haven't seen the GOP act much like the opposition party yet. Whenever some Republicans do pop up in opposition, they get cut down by other Republicans. We already have a pathway for the illegals to citizenship, follow the laws which are already in place. What the Republicans are doing is fantastic for the Democrats. If the House bill passes, the Democrats will be well on their way to a permanent majority. But for whatever reason the Republican Party leadership cannot see that.

Contempt Vote Against Holder Concerning Fast and Furious

House GOP schedules contempt vote against Holder

Washington Examiner -- House Republicans say they have run out of patience with the Justice Department over its withholding of documents related to the gun walking operation known as Fast and Furious.

The House Oversight and Government reform committee announced Monday that it will vote on a "contempt of Congress" motion against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder "for his failure to produce documents" related to the department's knowledge of Fast and Furious, which the panel subpoenaed in October.

The announcement ends a brief detente between the two branches over Fast and Furious. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, tried to stave off a contempt vote by pressuring the White House directly to turn over thousands of pages of documents, but the Justice Department has not complied.

Aides told The Washington Examiner that the committee’s statement could be a last-ditch effort to get Holder to cough up the documents. The statement includes this line: "If the Attorney General decides to produce these subpoenaed documents, I am confident we can reach agreement on other materials and render the process of contempt unnecessary."

Blog author's comments - This is how long it takes the GOP to lose their patience and do something about Holder? Mine was gone within the first month I found out about 'Fast and Furious.'

Seriously, I don't believe this will work. Eric Holder should have been gone months ago but I think he will survive and keep his job as the Attorney General. Obama has of course been no help, Holder knows too much concerning what Obama has done during his time in office.

The MSM will continue to protect the Obama administration and spin this as an out of control Republican House focused on trying to embarrass Obama in an election year.

W.H. To Boehner - Abandon House Republicans

White House to Boehner: Ditch the GOP, pass bills

Politico - A senior White House official challenged House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to buck his own Republican conference and pass the payroll tax, jobs and unemployment insurance bills with moderate Republicans and 60 to 70 Democrats.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity and on the (weird) condition he wouldn’t be directly quoted, said the Senate and a majority of House members could pass a longer-term deficit agreement, but only if Boehner abandons his insistence that all major bills be approved by a majority of ruling Republicans.

Abandoning such a stance, members on both sides have said, would almost certainly prompt a challenge to his leadership from conservatives who make up the bulk of the lower chamber GOP, a challenge the speaker is likely to lose.

“That’s remarkably stupid. The fact that the White House can’t get a full-year payroll tax cut extension through the Democrat-run Senate is the Senate Democratic leadership’s fault — not John Boehner’s,” said Brendan Buck, the speaker’s press secretary. “The House was the only chamber to pass an extension of the payroll tax cut through 2012. We did it without job-killing tax increases, and we plan to again. ” Entire column...

Blog author's comment - The White House is asking Boehner to commit self-destruction. This is another ploy to blame Republicans for the failure of Democrat schemes.

If the GOP retains control of the House, there are conservatives who would provide stronger leadership as Speaker than John Boehner.

Boehner - Understands Protesters Frustrations

John Boehner: I understand
Occupy Wall Street 'frustrations'

Politico - Speaker John Boehner said Monday that he understood the “frustrations” driving the Occupy Wall Street movement – but urged protesters to be peaceful to prevent demonstrations from blowing out of control.

“I understand people’s frustrations,” Boehner said during an appearance at the McConnell Center at the University of Louisville. “The economy is not producing jobs like they want and there’s lot of erosion of confidence in our government and frankly, under the First Amendment, people have the right to speak out … but that doesn’t mean they have the permission to violate the law.”

Beyond that, I lived through the riots of the Vietnam War … and you can see how some of those activities got out of control. A lot of people lived through the race riots of 1968 that was clearly out of control, and I’m hopeful that these demonstrations will continue to be peaceful.”

Blog author's comments - If the GOP retains control of the House, John Boehner has to step down in 2013. We must have a strong leader as Speaker of the House.

Mr. Boehner, the Occupy Wall Street protesters are violating laws. These people are part of Obama's base and they want the government to take care of them.

John Boehner is once again demonstrating that he is out of touch with conservative republicans.

The Occupy Wall Street people aren't a political movement they are a crime wave.

Speaker Boehner - On Latest Budget Plan

John Boehner Explains His New Plan to Rush Limbaugh

Blog author's comments - I don't like this latest budget plan. Should Boehner compromise with Obama, I say no! We are being played by the ruling class in Washington.

At this point in time it seems to me that Boehner is ready to pass a bill which is not in the best interest of the country because he is afraid of a government shutdown. If Obama wants to shutdown the government, let him do it. Of course with the help of some members of the media he will attempt to blame the GOP.

Obama's only real goal is to win a second term as president. He does not want a short term solution, he wants a bill which will run through the 2012 election and includes tax increases. Today NBC's Chuck Todd asked Jay Carney the White House press secretary about the White House’s reluctance to release its plan to deal with the national debt and raising the debt ceiling. When Todd pressed for details – “Why not just release it?” – Carney seemed surprised. “You need it written down?”

This latest bill is nothing much at all. It proposes to cut $1.1 trillion over 10 years. That’s a mere cut of $100 billion each year if it ever happens. None of the bills cut into the deficit and all of them raise the debt ceiling. I doubt that this latest attempt by Boehner will pass in the House or Senate.

Mark Levin - The Budget Deal is a Scam

Mark Levin Believes the Budget Deal to be a Historic Scam

Mark Levin: "Since Boehner said repeatedly Republicans will never shutdown the government...what is their strategy exactly? How are they (Republicans) gonna combat the debt ceiling and fight for $6.2 trillion in cuts?"

Blog author's comments - There is no way this will happen -- that the GOP will attain $6.2 trillion in cuts from the Democrats. If they could not get a much better deal than they settled for this week I don't have much hope.

Mark Levin the "great one" is correct as usual. For those who have never listened to his radio show Monday through Friday evenings...do yourself a favor.

Our country is sinking and the people in congress are playing games. I would think that all of the non-essential functions could have been shut down and the government would still run in the red.

This deal was nothing short of a complete capitulation to the Dems agenda. There is nothing good in it and Boehner blinked, for reasons that are not in anyone’s best interest. Boehner cut a deal for $38.5 billion but initially the GOP wanted a $61 billion cut. Was Boehner afraid to let the government shut down? I think so.

Just over a week ago, a Rasmussen poll said 57% favored a government shut down to achieve bigger budget cuts, and that’s when $61B was still the goal.

Speaker John Boehner on Fox News with Wallace

Chris Wallace of Fox News Interviews Speaker John Boehner

I don't watch 'Fox News Sunday' but found this video of today's show. I assume Speaker Boehner was also interviewed concerning more important subjects than what is covered by Chris Wallace here.

He asked John Boehner why he tears up at times and why he does not stop smoking. I don't find these two questions to be newsworthy but I guess Wallace did. If some things touch Mr. Boehner to make him tear up, I assume he is an emotional person. Some people may view this as a weakness but that is their problem.

I also don't care if Speaker Boehner smokes. Tobacco is still legal and if Boehner wants to smoke that is his business. I would question Chris Wallace if he has ever asked Barack Obama why he does not stop smoking or more importantly, lying to us.

I thought Speaker John Boehner handled the interview well.

Blog author's comments - I have covered most of my comments above the video. I do not think Wallace was disrespectful during his questioning.

With the shape our country is currently in I would think most Americans at times feel emotional or feel like hitting something. As for John Boehner smoking, for now we are still a free country but that seems to be changing.

Hopefully John Boehner will be a strong leader and at times getting teary eyed should not diminish his skills simply because he’s an emotional person. I don’t think Wallace attacked him, but it was a bit strange to ask Boehner about smoking. If Wallace interviewed Pelosi, I wonder if he asked her about the Botox injections.

Consider the contrast between Obama and Boehner. On the question of smoking, Obama is always trying to quit but never does. Boehner says get over it, it’s legal. As for emotions, who is weak but most importantly, who is honest?

Speaker Boehner Opposes Gun Control Bill

Boehner Opposes New Gun-Control Bill

The Hill - Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is rejecting gun-control legislation offered by the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee in response to the weekend shootings of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and 19 others in Arizona.

Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) announced plans Tuesday to introduce legislation prohibiting people from carrying guns within 1,000 feet of members of Congress.

King, who has previously called for the removal of illegal guns from the streets, made the announcement alongside New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, one of the nation’s loudest voices for stricter gun laws.

King said the legislation is not intended only for the safety of government officials but also to protect the public. He said elected officials are not necessarily more important than constituents, but by protecting them in this way, they would feel safer in meeting federal officials at public events.

“The fact is they do represent the people who elect them, and it’s essential, if we’re going to continue to have contact, that the public who are at these meetings are ensured of their own safety,” King said.

King’s legislation got the cold shoulder from Boehner and other Republicans after it was announced.

Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said the Speaker would not support King’s legislation. - Entire column > >

Blog author's comments - Criminals who have the intent of harming someone are not going to be stopped by another gun law. If there were more guns at the Safeway store the morning of the shooting, maybe the body count would not have been so devastating.

Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) announced plans Tuesday to introduce legislation prohibiting people from carrying guns within 1,000 feet of members of Congress. Does King really believe his law would stop a deranged person who is out to complete his mission of violence?

Where has Obama been while the left-wing hate speech and accusatory rhetoric has been thrown at the conservatives that the left seeks to discredit with their blatant lies? Obama is enjoying this and I believe he hopes it will continue.

Most of us are more afraid of our government then guns! The person in the White House and all his faithful followers, in particular the Main Stream Media and many members of the Democrat Party, are the ones who are doing the harm to the country.

“We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.” - Ronald Reagan.

I do not know why she kept on and on, but my guess is she is still furious over being booted out. Her smile was relatively "fixed", and I wonder how long it took her to practice keeping it there? I assume that the Botox injections helped.

Boehner’s speech was delivered by a gentleman.

I have edited all of the above from the video and it only shows the actual passing of the gavel.

It was good to see that the new Speaker of the House went right to work and immediately took the action the majority of the people in our country hoped that he would.

Blog author's comments - I will add that the GOP must keep the pressure on the Democrats. They need to show the voters that the Republican Party, with the addition of the new conservative members, is serious about turning the country around.
