Jay Carney: Republicans Want To "Punish" People Who Receive Food Stamps
The Blaze -- Anticipating what Democrats have already called the “food stamp cliff” reduction in benefits to take effect on Nov. 1, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Thursday that food stamps are “the most effective way of to combat hunger” and accused House Republicans of wanting to “punish” people who receive them.
He was also clear that the Obama administration wants Americans receiving benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to be able to get off the program the right way by reaching a better economic condition.
The “food stamp cliff" is the expiration of the temporary increase in SNAP funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, better known as the stimulus act. Without an increase, a single adult’s benefits will reportedly be cut by $11 a month to a total of $189.[...]
Carney added, “We’re committed reducing the number of Americans who need SNAP, the right way by arming recipients with the skills they need to enter the workforce, earn the income they need to support a family and ultimately come off the program.”
Speaking about the importance of the program, he continued: “SNAP is the most effective way of to combat hunger and food insecurity, particularly as food banks are telling us that they are already struggling to meeting the needs in their communities.”
In August, the House separated food stamp funding from the farm bill.
“This goes to a broader effort to pass a comprehensive farm bill,” Carney continued. “The Senate has done it. The House, in the aforementioned action, broke years and years of precedent and separated out elements of the farm bill that had always been together. And essentially did so in order to punish millions of Americans who depend on this assistance and that is absolutely the wrong approach to the problem that you’ve identified.
Entire column...
Blog author's comments - The Press Secretary Carney's job is to protect the president no matter what he does and to attempt to always portray the Republicans as the enemy of the American people.
The Obama administration is signing up as many people as they can for food stamps. This is what the progressives and Democrats want to have happen. Keep people down and dependent, convinced they cannot succeed without the government. And if they vote they will usually vote for anyone who is a Democrat. The government is currently giving food stamps to 47 million Americans...and that number is continually growing. Many of these food stamp recipients should receive them, but there are many healthy, able bodied people who are content to live off the government dole and have no intention of seeking employment.
How about lowering taxes and getting rid of Obamacare so the free market can create jobs. Lower taxes will encourage business owners to invest and grow their companies and hire more people. We already have enough people who have given up finding a job and now with Obama's signature piece of legislation, the ACA, more companies will be downsizing their work force or making some people part-time employees.
With ‘SNAP’ funding a single adult’s benefits will reportedly be cut by $11 a month to a total of $189. For a family of four that gets $668 per month in benefits they will find that amount cut by $36. Food stamps are only a part of what many people receive from the government’s welfare program...housing, child care, healthcare and school meals for their children. This will never stop...there are too many people locked into this way of life, being cared for by the taxpayer’s money.

Two Added to Food Stamp Rolls for Every Job Obama Says He Created
CNS News -- White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said yesterday that the Obama administration has pulled the nation from the depths of the "Great Recession" with the creation of 7.2 million private sector jobs.
"And what is absolutely true is that we have come a long way since the depths of the Great Recession. We've created over 7.2 million private sector jobs," Carney told reporters at a press briefing.
Here's what Mr. Carney didn't say:
Since February of 2009, the first full month of Obama's presidency, 9.5 million Americans have dropped out of the labor force. Nearly 90 million Americans are not working today!
That means that 1.3 Americans have dropped out of the labor force for every one job the administration claims to have created.
There are 15 million more Americans on food stamps today than when Obama assumed office.
At the end of January 2009, 32,204,859 Americans received aid from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. As of April 2013, there were 47,548,694 Americans on food stamps.
That means that more than two Americans have been added to the food stamp rolls for every one job the administration says it has created.
Under Obama, 1.6 million more Americans are collecting disability insurance. In February 2009, 9,334,369 Americans received disability payments. Today, that number is 10,953,733.
Blog author's comments - Press Secretary Jay Carney said that the Obama administration has pulled the nation from the depths of the "Great Recession" with the creation of 7.2 million private sector jobs. If this was actually true why do we read during the rest of the column how really bad the jobs market has been during the time the Obama administration has been in office?
I have to believe that most of the jobs which have been filled during this time have been part-time or temporary jobs and, of course, government jobs. What Carney said is not accurate. And Obama will attempt to place the blame for the true jobs figures on the Republican controlled House.
The White House is promoting food stamp use...which is creating dependency on the government, the key to strengthening the liberal and socialist agenda. He and his administration's policies will never create jobs and strengthen the economy. If the Democrats can win control of the House in 2014 and retain the Senate, I have no doubt he will pass another 'Stimulus' bill which he will say will be a job creator...much like the last one he passed when he had full control and what did that create aside from putting the country deeper in debt. His answer to every problem is to throw money at it.
Obama is in charge of the executive branch. If there is waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government, Obama is responsible for it. I continue to preach that at the very least the GOP has to hold control of the House. If they do not control the House after the midterm election in 2014, during Obama's last two years in office he will be completely out of control. We will see amnesty and citizenship for the illegals which will cost the taxpayer's even more to fund food stamps and other government programs. This will also mean millions more Democratic Party voters. The GOP has to get their act together or America will continue down hill if Obama is able to do what he has planned.

Obama 'Is Not Particularly Concerned' Susan Rice Misled American People
Weekly Standard -- In response to a question from reporter Major Garrett on whether the Obama administration's mishandling of Benghazi raises "core questions of basic competency," press secretary Jay Carney revealed that Barack Obama "is not particularly concerned" about whether Susan Rice misled the American people:
"What the president is worried about, Major, is what happened and why in Benghazi. He is not particularly concerned about whether the ambassador or I went out and talked about the fact that we believed extremists might have been responsible. And whether we named them as al Qaeda or not does not--no, it certainly doesn't have any bearing on what happened and who was responsible as that investigation was continuing on Benghazi."
Blog author's comments - Barack Obama also doesn't appear to be "particularly concerned" that four Americans were murdered by terrorists in Libya on sovereign U.S. soil. Anyone who has followed what happened is aware that the U.S. ambassador, Christopher Stevens, had asked for more security but did not receive it. We also know the attack was not caused by a 'You Tube' video that ridicules Islam's Prophet Muhammad, made by an American citizen. Al Qaeda planned this attack to occur on the anniversary of 9/11.
Obama and others had the chance to help the Americans during the Benghazi attack but did nothing. We have a dead ambassador, we have three other dead Americans, and in the midst of this attack does anyone know where the president was? Why wasn't there orders for help given?
Did Obama expect us to believe that after Osama bin Laden was killed by the Navy SEAL Team 6, that al Qaeda was now much weaker as a terrorist threat? I do not think that bin Laden had been a factor in any actions taken by al Qaeda for years.
Many members of the mainstream media do not care about what happened, the Obama administration does not seem to care enough to take responsibility for their lack of support, but worst of all the people who elected Obama to a second term apparently do not care either.
I believe Obama will nominate Susan Rice as the next Secretary of State and she will be appointed. She did the job which was asked of her and appeared on all the Sunday talk shows using the talking points provided for her, to attempt to cover for Obama's lack of leadership as president.

Press Sec. Carney Says: Change Time Of Debate
Congress At Same Time As GOP Presidential Debate
Politico - The White House suggested Wednesday that the hosts of next week’s GOP presidential debate can change the time by an hour so it doesn’t interfere with President Obama’s planned jobs speech to Congress.
POLITICO and NBC are hosting a Republican debate Sept. 7 at 8 p.m., the same time the White House said Obama asked Congress to make an address.
Asked about the timing on Wednesday, press secretary Jay Carney said, “It is coincidental.”
“There are a lot of factors that go into scheduling a speech before Congress, a joint session,” he said. “You can never find a perfect time. ... There are many channels, there are many opportunities for people to watch the president, and obviously for people to watch the debate.”
Asked later if the interruption is then an “added bonus” for the White House, Carney suggested that isn’t the case. “There's one president, there's 20-some-odd debates," he said.
“There are many opportunities for the American people. There's a choice they can make to watch the president, to watch the debate,” he said. “A network could make a decision to alter the timing of the debate by an hour.”
Carney later elaborated, saying that if “sponsors chose and the candidates so chose to adjust the timing of their debate ... that would be completely fine with us, in the spirit of democracy.”
Blog author's comments - Speaker John Boehner runs the House. Tell Obama the time he wants for a joint session of Congress is not available. The White House will have to choose another date for this so important speech.
I believe the consensus is that Boehner will back down and give Obama what he wants. The GOP controls the House and they should be the ones telling Obama when he can speak to a joint session.
This President deserves zero respect. Why should we care what President Disaster has to say? He will no doubt ask the GOP to fund more programs which will have no chance of creating jobs. This will simply be a push for another stimulus.
The White House knew the schedule of the GOP debate well before the President decided which day to present his speech. So, logic dictates it was intentional to play games with the GOP debate, and saying it should be moved in the “spirit of democracy”.
There’s no reason for Obama to give a political 'campaign speech' in a joint session. Obama should make his campaign speech on “jobs” at a televised press conference.

Obama Has New Ideas To Enhance Economy?
Suggest Obama To Blame For Job Losses
When asked questions about the president’s upcoming speech on jobs and economic growth yesterday, White House Spokesperson Jay Carney claimed that only the most ‘fervent partisan’ would suggest the 8 million plus jobs lost in this recession were lost because of actions Barack Obama took.
Q -- Jay, the question is what is different in this new speech? What is going to be different?
MR. CARNEY: Well, you will see what the President proposes to enhance growth, enhance hiring, and you will judge then what's different about the new ideas that are contained within it as well as ideas that you've heard about. But I can't let the premise go uncommented on when you talk about the amount of job loss in the time since the President took -- was sworn into office. I don't think anybody except the most fervent partisan would suggest that the 8 million jobs lost because of this recession were lost because of actions that this President took. Those jobs were lost within the four months -- in the months prior to his swearing-in, his inauguration, and in the months thereafter.
Blog author's comments - From now on you can refer to me as a "fervent partisan". This is simply one more time Obama has promised to come up with a plan to create jobs. He said the same thing in 2010. The man hasn’t a clue…..nor does he intend to get one.
He only wants to throw more money at the problem. He has already done that which is why the country has such a mountain of debt. He will probably propose Stimulus II for at least $1.6 Trillion. The GOP controlled House will hopefully say no to this.
This is what he wants to happen - this is his plan - so he can tell the voters over and over prior to the election (1) The recession is the fault of the previous administration. (2) If it were not for the GOP controlled House the economy would be in much better shape.
Obama has no other choice. He cannot run on his record of accomplishments. He has none. He has been a complete disaster.

More Obama Talk, Campaign Tour About Economy

Fox News - President Barack Obama’s upcoming bus tour through the Midwest states typically viewed as swing states during presidential election years will be paid for by the taxpayers, the White House says.
Obama will start the tour on Aug. 15 and will talk about strengthening jobs and the economy, the White House announced on Tuesday.
“He is very happily getting out into the country again after a very sustained period here in Washington and he looks forward to talking to folks about growing the economy, creating jobs," said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. "We will have more details, as I said, about the specifics of the trip."
Carney indicated he did not know now precisely where the president would go or what he might be announcing.
CNSNews.com asked Carney, “Is that a campaign event or a presidential event?
Carney answered, “Negative. That is an official event.”
CNSNews.com followed, “So it is being funded by taxpayers in battleground states?”
Carney responded, “He’s the president of the United States.”
Blog author's comments - White House Spokesperson Jay Carney said Obama "looks forward to talking to folks about growing the economy, creating jobs." On Thursday August 4 Carney said "the White House doesn't create jobs."
We know what Obama has done, he has trashed our economy and as long as he is in the White House he will continue to do so. I don't believe this tour will help the loser.
Democrats see the US taxpayer’s hard earned money as their entitlement. The Bus Tour is going to flop, just as the entire Democrat Party. This Democrat nightmare must be ended this 2012. It's time to return to sanity.
