Obama's Jobs Bill Defeated In The Senate

Obama says Senate defeat of jobs
bill 'by no means the end of this fight'

The Hill - President Obama blasted Senate Republicans for blocking his jobs bill Tuesday night, saying the American people “won’t take ‘no’ for an answer.”

The president said in a statement that his administration will work with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to get votes on the individual components of the bill “as soon as possible.”

“Tonight’s vote is by no means the end of this fight,” Obama said. “Independent economists have said that the American Jobs Act would grow the economy and lead to nearly two million jobs, which is why the majority of the American people support these bipartisan, common-sense proposals.”

The president did not mention the two Democrats who joined the entire Republican minority in opposing the bill, boasting instead that “a majority of United States Senators voted to advance the American Jobs Act.”

After the vote, Obama said that on each vote, lawmakers can “either explain to their constituents why they’re against common-sense, bipartisan proposals to create jobs, or they can listen to the overwhelming majority of American people who are crying out for action.”

“Because with so many Americans out of work and so many families struggling, we can’t take ‘no’ for an answer,” Obama said.

“Ultimately, the American people won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. It’s time for Congress to meet their responsibility, put their party politics aside and take action on jobs right now.”

Blog author's comments - Did the President forget that the Democrats control the Senate? Obama and the MSM are both saying it is entirely the fault of the Republicans that the 'jobs bill' did not pass the Senate.

Obama said “Independent economists have said that the American Jobs Act would grow the economy and lead to nearly two million jobs." No doubt these are the same brilliant “independent economists” who told us how great the first stimulus bill would be and what it would do for the country.

The MSM is acting, like Obama, as if the GOP has majorities in both houses. If it would have passed both houses who would Obama have to blame for his pathetic performance and out of control spending, high unemployment and terrible economy while campaigning for 2012?

Obama - many Americans don't believe what they hear from you and the MSM. They don't want your 'hope and change' and they oppose amnesty. They want you to move out of the White House after the 2012 election.

Obama - Creating His Own Reality On Jobs Bill

AP Blasts Obama Over Jobs Pitch:
He's Creating His Own 'Reality'

The Blaze - Washington AP - In President Barack Obama’s sales pitch for his jobs bill, there are two versions of reality: The one in his speeches and the one actually unfolding in Washington.

When Obama accuses Republicans of standing in the way of his nearly $450 billion plan, he ignores the fact that his own party has struggled to unite behind the proposal.

When the president says Republicans haven’t explained what they oppose in the plan, he skips over the fact that Republicans who control the House actually have done that in detail.

And when he calls on Congress to “pass this bill now,” he slides past the point that Democrats control the Senate and were never prepared to move immediately, given other priorities. Senators are expected to vote Tuesday on opening debate on the bill, a month after the president unveiled it with a call for its immediate passage.

To be sure, Obama is not the only one engaging in rhetorical excesses. But he is the president, and as such, his constant remarks on the bill draw the most attention and scrutiny.

The disconnect between what Obama says about his jobs bill and what stands as the political reality flow from his broader aim: to rally the public behind his cause and get Congress to act, or, if not, to pin blame on Republicans.

Blog author's comments - Whoever wrote, edited and printed that article is going to be fired. Obama will have none of this free thinking and reporting of truth within the MSM.

The problem is, there are enough unquestioning Sheeple who keep his approval rating hovering around 40%. No matter what he says or does they will vote for him.

I don't think the MSM will ever try to save themselves, even though they created him and propped up all the lies.

All things considered, it would be interesting if the House were to approve Obama's 'Jobs Bill.' When the economy still does not improve, who would he have to blame while campaigning for the 2012 election? He would continue with - all of our problems are the fault of the previous administration.

Obama Tells Us Again - The Economy Needs A Jolt

Obama '09 and '11: Economy
Really Needs A "JOLT" Right Now

Blog author's comments - The only jolt much of America is willing to give President Obama will be his firing next year. Another “jolt” gimmick is exactly what the country does not need. A calm return to business-friendly policies is required, but Barack Obama will not go there.

In 2011 - the Jobs Bill needs to pass to give the economy a "jolt." In 2009 - the Stimulus Bill had to pass to give the economy a "jolt." The 'Stimulus' bill did nothing to help the economy. The 'Jobs Bill' is another worthless piece of legislation which Obama is using to try to gain a second term as President.

So far, everything Boehner and the Republicans in the house do, immediately gets shot down in the Senate. The GOP must retain control of the House and regain control of the Senate with the 2012 election.

The Senate is supposed to take up Obama's jobs bill next week after adding to the bill a tax increase on million-dollar earners. Obama said he will support this. How will this create jobs? With more taxes on the million dollar earners - Obama and the Democrats are declaring war on the job creators.

U.S. unemployment is currently at 9.1 percent and is expected to stay as high as 9 percent into the 2012 presidential electoral year. Recent U.S. history shows that no president has been re-elected at such a high level of unemployment. I hope this "history" will continue with the 2012 presidential election.

McConnell To Reid - Let Senate Vote On Jobs Bill

Reid blocks attempt by McConnell
to vote on president's jobs bill

The Hill - In a lively spat on the Senate floor Tuesday, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) attempted call up President Obama’s jobs plan for an immediate vote in the upper chamber.

However, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who supports the legislation, blocked the vote. Reid used a procedural maneuver called "filling the tree," which allows the majority leader to say a piece of legislation has had all of its possibilities for amendments.

McConnell had tried to offer the president's job package as an amendment to the China currency legislation, which was being debated in chamber. By "filing the tree," Reid blocked that move.

“What I am trying to do here today by requesting this vote on the president’s jobs bill ... is to honor the request of the president of the United States that we vote on it now,” McConnell said. “He has been asking us repeatedly over the last few weeks that we vote on it now.”

“I think the president of the United States, whose polices I generally do not support ... is entitled to know where the Senate stands on his proposal that he has been out talking about ... and suggesting that we are unwilling to vote on it," he said. - Keep reading...

Blog author's comments - Harry Reid won't allow a Senate vote because he knows he does not have the votes in the Senate to pass the 'Jobs Bill'. The Democrats in the Senate will not support this tax hike. Many are up for re-election in 2012. They are protecting their jobs.

Mitch McConnell, this is what I have been waiting for...good move! It doesn’t really matter if the MSM ignores it, it’s on the record, no denying it. The MSM will still blame the Republicans.

McConnell - tell the media -"we tried to follow Obama’s will, but unfortunately, some members of the Democratic Party won't listen to reason. Obama said, over and over "pass this bill", but Reid continues to block a vote."

Almost simultaneously, after Reid said no to an immediate vote in the Senate, the Obama campaign sent supporters an e-mail titled “They won’t even vote it.” “President Obama is in Dallas today urging Americans who support the American Jobs Act to demand that Congress pass it already,” the e-mail read. “Though it’s been nearly a month since Obama laid out this plan, House Republicans haven’t acted to pass it.”

Obama and Reid are playing a game. They both knew this would not pass when he called the Joint Session of Congress to announce it, with no details. They will continue to hammer the GOP for not passing the bill, hoping that the voters will eventually believe them and place the blame on the Republican Party.

No Surprise - Obama Wants To Raise Taxes

Obama Unveils Deficit Plan Containing $1.5 Trillion in Tax Hikes

Fox News - WASHINGTON – President Obama, drawing immediate condemnation from congressional Republicans, unveiled a new deficit reduction plan Monday anchored by $1.5 trillion in new taxes, including an end to Bush-era rates for upper income earners making $250,000 or more and additional taxes on millionaires.

Keying in on a populist message that millionaires and billionaires should pay more in taxes than their secretaries, the president announced a plan in the Rose Garden that includes more than $2 trillion total in entitlement cuts and tax increases over the next decade.

Together with spending cuts enacted last month and projected savings from interest payments, the savings in the president's plan total more than $3 trillion. The Obama administration is also adding on another $1 trillion in savings over 10 years from winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, though that kind of accounting has been dismissed in past debates as a gimmick.

The $4 trillion effort is tied to his American Jobs Act, aimed at putting nearly 14 million unemployed back to work. Critics have stated that targeting job creators -- the top 1 percent pays 38 percent of the tax burden, according to 2008 estimates -- won't help the jobless find employment.

House Speaker John Boehner last week warned that tax hikes should be off the table as a newly formed bipartisan committee meets to extract long-term deficit savings. - Continue reading...

Blog author's comments - Obama's jobs bill will not produce new jobs or help grow the economy. Now he plays the class warfare game with his deficit reduction plan. Does he believe this will save him in 2012?

When he announced the plan for his jobs bill he repeatedly said it must be passed right away. The Democrat controlled Senate does not have it on their calendar until some time in October. I don't believe they want any part of it either.

He told everyone he wanted to raise taxes while he was campaigning in 2008. This is the reason businesses pulled back and unemployment started to rise. But he and his regime continued to blame Bush for the problems they created during his first two years in office when the Democrats also controlled the House.

My hope is that enough voters now understand that he has been a dreadful mistake for our country and will remove him in 2012. Whatever he attempts to do now will not help the economy. Most businesses will continue to sit on their money and wait for the outcome of the 2012 election.

For the private sector to grow and private sector jobs to be created and Obama's tax plan to happen at the same time, is not possible.

Obama - Tells Us To Pay Our Fair Share

Obama: Americans must pay fair share to cut deficit

Reuters - President Barack Obama said on Saturday that Americans need to be ready to "pay their fair share" to narrow the deficit, previewing his proposals to Congress that are expected to include more taxes on the rich.

In his weekly radio and video address, the Democrat said his $447 billion jobs plan that features tax breaks for workers and small businesses, plus funds for public works projects and schools, "will not add to the deficit. It will be paid for."

"On Monday, I'll lay out my plan for how we'll do that -- how we'll pay for this plan and pay down our debt by following some basic principles: making sure we live within our means and asking everyone to pay their fair share."

Obama has repeatedly argued for the wealthiest Americans to face higher taxes with fewer loopholes and exceptions as part of the effort to ensure the U.S. debtload remains in control.

Republicans, who have raised the volume on Washington's fiscal problems as the November 2012 presidential election nears, see higher taxes on the wealthy as a problem for jobs, given that entrepreneurs and companies would be strongly affected.

Blog author's comments - Will someone in the media ask the President to explicitly define “fair share”? I doubt that we will receive a clear answer. Obama's Jobs Bill should be dead in the House, and I doubt that it will pass in the Senate.

This whole facade is a campaign stunt. He must be out of the White House in 2013. I pity the Republicans who inherit this mess that Obama and his party have created.

Obama: If You Love Me Help Pass My Jobs Bill

Obama: If you love me, ask Congress to pass my jobs bill

CBS News - President Obama continued pushing his jobs bill in battleground states on Wednesday, telling a fired-up crowd of students at North Carolina State University that, "If you love me, you've got to help me pass this bill!"

Mr. Obama, speaking to a crowd of more than 9,000 people in an unairconditioned auditorium, reiterated the main points of his recently-unveiled American Jobs Act, and urged students to help him get it passed through Congress.

"For those of you who did skip class today, I've got a homework assignment for you," he said, "tell your Congress person that the time for gridlock and games is over; the time for action is now."

The president touted a series of proposals in the bill that he said would help America "get back to a place where we're creating good, middle-class jobs again."

"Jobs that pay well; jobs that offer some security... I know that's what the students are thinking about," he said. "And we can do that if we can finally get Washington to act. If we can get folks to stop worrying so much about their jobs and start worrying a little more about your jobs."

"We know what's right: We know what we've got to do to create jobs right now," he continued, to enthusiastic applause, "We've got to give workers new skills for new jobs."- Continue reading...

Blog author's comments - Obama, if you cared for the people you would resign. You are in way over your head. After listening to the video, this has to be one of the most pathetic things said by an American president.

Obama also said - "If we can get folks to stop worrying so much about their jobs and start worrying a little more about your jobs." To that I must say he appears to be desperately worried about his own job.

The only way the economy will begin to turn around, jobs created and the unemployment numbers drop is when Obama is unemployed and living somewhere other than the White House.

To save our country he has to be removed from office in 2012.

Press Sec. Carney Says: Change Time Of Debate

Obama Asks To Make Address To Joint Session Of
Congress At Same Time As GOP Presidential Debate

Politico - The White House suggested Wednesday that the hosts of next week’s GOP presidential debate can change the time by an hour so it doesn’t interfere with President Obama’s planned jobs speech to Congress.

POLITICO and NBC are hosting a Republican debate Sept. 7 at 8 p.m., the same time the White House said Obama asked Congress to make an address.

Asked about the timing on Wednesday, press secretary Jay Carney said, “It is coincidental.”

“There are a lot of factors that go into scheduling a speech before Congress, a joint session,” he said. “You can never find a perfect time. ... There are many channels, there are many opportunities for people to watch the president, and obviously for people to watch the debate.”

Asked later if the interruption is then an “added bonus” for the White House, Carney suggested that isn’t the case. “There's one president, there's 20-some-odd debates," he said.

“There are many opportunities for the American people. There's a choice they can make to watch the president, to watch the debate,” he said. “A network could make a decision to alter the timing of the debate by an hour.”

Carney later elaborated, saying that if “sponsors chose and the candidates so chose to adjust the timing of their debate ... that would be completely fine with us, in the spirit of democracy.”

Blog author's comments - Speaker John Boehner runs the House. Tell Obama the time he wants for a joint session of Congress is not available. The White House will have to choose another date for this so important speech.

I believe the consensus is that Boehner will back down and give Obama what he wants. The GOP controls the House and they should be the ones telling Obama when he can speak to a joint session.

This President deserves zero respect. Why should we care what President Disaster has to say? He will no doubt ask the GOP to fund more programs which will have no chance of creating jobs. This will simply be a push for another stimulus.

The White House knew the schedule of the GOP debate well before the President decided which day to present his speech. So, logic dictates it was intentional to play games with the GOP debate, and saying it should be moved in the “spirit of democracy”.

There’s no reason for Obama to give a political 'campaign speech' in a joint session. Obama should make his campaign speech on “jobs” at a televised press conference.
