The Gulf Recovery Obama Does Not Want to See

The Heritage Foundation
August 13th, 2010

Next week, for the fifth time since July, the first family will board Air Force One for yet another luxury vacation, this time to an exclusive Martha’s Vineyard estate that rents for up to $50,000 a week. But before they head north, the Obamas will first grace Panama City, Fla., with their presence this weekend for what is being billed as a "solidarity vacation to the Gulf Coast"

While in Florida, the President is expected to meet with local business leaders to discuss the effects of the spill before departing on a cross-country trip around the United States including stops in Los Angeles and Seattle to raise cash for Democrats and a stop in Wisconsin at a renewable energy factory. Not on the agenda? Any meetings with oil workers in other Gulf states who are now unemployed thanks to President Obama’s Gulf oil drilling ban.

If the President really wanted to see the economic damage his policies are causing in the Gulf, he could first stop in Pascagoula, Miss., where idle oil rigs in the Signal International shipyard have formed an eerie floating ghost city that locals have dubbed "Rig Row."

Instead of being deployed at sea where they could be creating wealth for this country and jobs for Gulf residents, these rigs are wasting away idly in port as a direct result of President Obama’s oil drilling moratorium – a moratorium that when first issued on just deep sea rigs, a federal judge ruled was "arbitrary and capricious" Undaunted, the Obama administration doubled down, issuing a broader oil drilling injunction that is killing even more jobs than the first ban.

Why is President Obama so eager to see Florida recover but doesn’t have the time of day for the other Gulf states? Eric Smith, a professor at the Tulane University business school, told FOX News: “The administration is in thrall to the environmental community, unfortunately, and as a result, they’re playing that card, and I think to try and slow up, or increase the cost of, hydrocarbons. I just think that’s the reality." " The Obama oil ban isn’t about safety, it is about permanently shrinking our domestic oil production capacity as quickly as possible.". . Entire column

Blog author's comments - Barack Obama is without a doubt the worst president this country has ever had. On one hand he knows exactly what he is doing to the economy of the Gulf states with his pandering to the environmentalists. On the other hand this guy is in way over his head.

He does not seem to have a clue as to the plan he should implement in an effort to help create jobs. All he has done since he has been in office is throw money at any problem he encounters or blame someone else for his failure. This of course has not helped but only served to deepen our economic woes.

The BP oil leak is another example of why arrogance and incompetence is a dangerous combination. It's an outrage. Look at what's happened: An entire industry has been shut down on the basis of an unwarranted panic.

Has Obama Suspended the First Amendment?

Obama could not have suspended the First Amendment, hmmm? He is not allowing the MSM to show and tell us about the damage from the Gulf oil spill.

What is happening makes one wonder why? Especially the way the main stream media has been dancing to his tune for well over two years.

His administration was also going to be the most truthful and transparent, he told us so during his campaign. But than again, he told us a lot of things which it seems to me he was not telling the truth about, only to receive your vote.

Oh well, he still does not want the reporters and photographers showing us or saying anything with regard to the Gulf oil spill which may make him look worse than he already does. No news crews are allowed within 65 feet of the Gulf beach to show the spill.
You don't suppose the "Obama regime" is doing this because every day that passes and the damage that is being done to the beaches and wildlife makes him look as though he is not and has not done his job? The oil is still leaking with no end in sight.

MSM Wall Protecting Obama Gulf Oil Spill Response Cracks With Latest AP Report
By P.J. Gladnick Sat, 07/03/2010
Perhaps it is frustration, as expressed by Anderson Cooper, with the new White House rules inhibiting reports about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that is now causing a big crack in the Mainstream Media wall which until recently mostly avoided direct criticism of the Obama administration response.

However that crack has now turned into a flood of surprising criticism coming from formerly friendly outlets such as the Associated Press. Read this amazing AP report and keep in mind that it is no longer just conservative sources that are harsh in their criticisms of the Obama Gulf oil containment efforts . . . Read entire column

Paul McCartney on oil spill said - "Sadly We Need Disasters Like This To Show People."

(FOX) The shocking images of oil-covered wildlife and ruined beaches across the Gulf of Mexico have horrified millions.

But passionate green campaigner Sir Paul McCartney believes the environmental disaster may have a silver lining, with the search for clean, renewable energy now being pushed forward. The Beatles legend said: "Sadly we need disasters like this to show people."

"Some people don't believe in climate warming - like those who don't believe there was a Holocaust."

"But the facts indicate that there's something going on and we've got to be aware of it if we want our kids to inherit a decent world, not a complete nightmare of a planet - clean, renewable energy is for starters."

In an exclusive interview, Sir Paul also defended US President Barack Obama's conduct during the crisis, which was caused by an explosion at BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig in April that left 11 dead.

The singer said: "I don't accept the criticism of Barack over the oil spill." "I think he's been great. It's tough if we Brits whinge that he's whingeing at us. Tough, then don't spill oil." Sir Paul - who met Obama for the first time earlier this month - added: "BP isn't just a British company any more, it's half American.

"The thing is, if you do something like that you're not going to get away with it. If the President of the country you spilled oil in tells you off then you've just got to take it or say, 'I'm really sorry, we'll clean it up and pay for it all by next week.' "If you create the biggest environmental disaster in US history then you're not going to get off that lightly" . . . Read Full Article (The Sun)

Paul - just a few words after reading your comments. From a bass guitar player to an environmental expert. Because you echo what Obama is saying and because of your celebrity status you receive the news coverage. Last week Robert Redford was the expert with his comments on the environment, which were also picked up by the MSM.

I have always been a fan of your music, but cannot agree with you concerning drilling for more of our own oil, our oil consumption and Global warming.

There were over 600 oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico in 2008. This is the first one that has had a problem of this magnitude. If the government would allow drilling in more shallow waters and drilling on our own land, instead of a mile down in the ocean floor, we would not be having this problem.

China and Russia are still drilling off shore, who will tell them to stop?

Mr. President - Talk Is Cheap

The American Spectator
By Russ Ferguson
When the President gave his first address from the Oval Office Tuesday night, I was surprised the networks weren't running a live feed of the Gulf oil spill in the corner of the screen.

Not only because they are almost always running that live feed, but because it would be a perfect image of what has been happening for almost 60 days now. Oil has been flowing out of a hole at the bottom of the sea at an astronomical rate, and the President has been talking. Just talking.

Even in his speech Tuesday night, he started by telling the American people what he had directed BP to do. But where is the action?

He said that there are 3,000 oil cleanup workers in four states and 1,000 ships -- but he didn't say that he sent them. He said there are over 17,000 National Guard troops there, but those are the National Guard troops belonging to the Gulf states (of which there are over 50,000 troops) and acting under their governors' leadership. And nonetheless, where are the results of all this effort? Oil is spilling out at higher rates than ever before.

This is not war; this is something that a president should have been able to contain a month ago. And if you couldn't contain it, he should have at least been able to clean up the oil on the surface as it accumulated. It is scary to think we have the strongest military in the world, but we can't even use our ships and equipment to sop up oil.

The President, time after time again, tried to become Barack Obama the beloved candidate. He talked about future policy and said that we need a long-term Gulf restoration plan "ASAP." No -- we don't need a long-term plan ASAP, we need to clean up the spill ASAP. Once again, this President is not governing, he is campaigning.

He also emphasized the importance of creating a commission to examine the cause of the spill to once again highlight the finger-pointing he has done from the beginning. Creating this commission should be the subject matter of a speech after the oil is contained. For now, STOP THE SPILL. Then worry about who started it.

The President concluded his speech by talking about future policies. Putting aside the fact that he is once again using this disaster to campaign for his agenda, he said, "The one approach I will not accept is inaction."

Well, Mr. President, lead by example. Because the only approach to cleaning up the oil spill we have endured is inaction. It's time to stop talking and start leading . . . Read entire column

Obama - On His Few Trips To The Gulf Of Mexico

Obama Goes Back To The Gulf Coast On Friday

White House announces Obama to return to Gulf coast on Friday. (This visit of course, will save us all)

The News-Star
"The White House press secretary has announced that President Obama will return to the Louisiana coast Friday, June 4, to inspect what progress has been made in regard to the continuing BP oil spill."

By Skip aka Kirby - So...what is Obama going to do on his return trip to the Louisiana coast on Friday? Aside from trying to project command of the situation while the oil continues spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. He must be paying closer attention to his polling numbers which show the public growing more negative with regard to the president's handling of the spill.

His administration did not respond to the crisis in the beginning and when they realized 'we have a serious problem' the president should have been reaching out for assistance from anyone who could possibly help BP put a stop to the leak. Instead BP has been blamed for the initial oil rig explosion which has caused the following oil gusher and environmental disaster.

Nancy Pelosi, earlier this week placed the blame for this disaster on George W. Bush. Nancy, let's first find a way to cap the leak before you play your blame game.

Ann Coulter adds..."oil is spewing from beneath a British Petroleum oil rig into the Gulf of Mexico at a rate of about 1 million gallons a day. There's no end in sight - although White House officials have made it clear their goal is to stop the leak before the midterm elections in November."

"The president finally went down to take a look at the disaster last week. To show his concern, Obama is thinking about returning some of the nearly $1 million the oil industry donated to his campaign. Just kidding - he's not returning any oil money."

The Oil Spill Continues - Obama Does Nothing

What a surprise. James Carville who 95% of the time will back the liberal Democrats, is speaking out against Obama. The majority of the media is still protecting Obama.

Obama and his administration have up to this point not treated the BP oil spill as though it was all that important to them. Hey Obama, where have you been? Why have you not been pushing BP and consulting any and all of the experts in the world for a way to cap this well and stop the oil leak? I assume he had more important issues to deal with. The man-child insists he has been on the job since day one.

On "Good Morning America" the Democrat strategist James Carville said about the current regime. The "political stupidity is unbelievable. Carville also said, "the president doesn't get down there in the middle of this, I have no idea why they did not seize this thing and I have no idea of why their attitude was so hands off here."

This Thursday, Obama will announce new tactics his government will take to prevent any future oil spills. On Friday Obama will visit the gulf coast. Only his second visit since the start of the spill which was over five weeks ago.

Carville said the Obama response to the BP spill can only be called "lackadaisical." Obama is blaming the Bush administration when he should have done more and his administration should have worked closely with BP to come up with a way to cap the spill.

We are into week six of this oil spill, now BP has come up with an idea which could stop the leak. They have run the idea past the Coast Guard and they have said, okay, try it. But who will take credit for the solution if BP's fix works? Barack Hussein Obama.

He will tell us that he has been on top of this from the beginning. The man is a total incompetent who would rather point fingers than do the work to fix the problem and find a solution. This is one he cannot fix by passing a bill to spend billions of dollars.

Karl Rove has said: "Could this be Mr. Obama's Katrina?"

After hurricane Katrina, federal obligation was to "support State and local assistance efforts" by providing whatever resources a governor requests and then writing checks for the cleanup. Mr. Bush had to deal with a Louisiana governor and a New Orleans mayor who were, by federal law, in charge. They did not take action before the storm hit and were not able to handle the crisis.

The BP oil well was drilled in Federal waters, so Washington, not Louisiana should be in charge. It is the responsibility of the Obama administration. But once BP comes up with a fix, the President will find a way to take the credit.

[From Michelle Malkin, May 27, 2010, 1:00 p.m. Eastern:]
Summary of Obama’s oil spill remarks at today's press conference: Bush at fault. Cozy regulators at fault.
Solution: More government, no more drilling.

Obama defends his sluggish response. Bottom line: You all are too stupid and uninformed to realize that this has been his “highest priority” and that the White House has been “singularly focused” on the oil spill.

Obama: “Those who think we were slow in our response or lacked urgency don’t know the facts.” “I’m confident that people are going to look back and say that this administration was on top of what was an unprecedented crisis.”
