Truth Revolt -- Major network anchors and executives convened at Trump Tower Monday for an off-the-record meeting with President-elect Trump. They assumed they were going to discuss their access to the new administration -- little did they know they were lining up before a one-man firing squad instead.
Sources with access to the meeting told the NY Post that, one by one, Trump laid into network heads and individual anchors, calling them out for their bias and unprofessional demeanor (ahem, Martha Raddatz) during the campaign season.
"It was like a f–ing firing squad," one source told the Post.
"Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said 'I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed.'"
According to the Post, those in attendance included: "NBC’s Lester Holt and Chuck Todd, ABC’s James Goldston, George Stephanopoulos, David Muir and Martha Raddatz, CBS’ Norah O’Donnell John Dickerson, Charlie Rose, Christopher Isham and King, MSNBC’s Phil Griffin and CNN’s Jeff Zucker and Erin Burnett" as well as several Fox News members. The outlet describes the meeting thusly:
“The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing down,” the source added. The Post reports that those in attendance were stunned. Of course, no one has ever rightfully put them in their place before. Until now, they've ridden roughshod over every Republican they ever encountered.
“The meeting took place in a big board room and there were about 30 or 40 people, including the big news anchors from all the networks,” the other source said.
“Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars. He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said.
“Trump didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate – which was Martha Raddatz who was also in the room.”
CBS Good Morning co-host Gayle King, Chuck Todd and David Muir all tried to ask how they were going to cover the new White House and how Trump would "cope" living in DC while his family remained in New York.
"It was a horrible meeting," the source said.
Ever the stateswoman, Kellyanne Conway told reporters, however, that the meeting went swimmingly.
"Excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks," she told reporters gathered at Trump tower.
If for no other reason than media will finally receive a taste of their own medicine, it was worth it to elect Donald Trump.
Blog Author's Comments -- If the news source to this story is correct, no doubt Trump let them know that he isn't going to stand for a minimum of four years of nothing but unfair disrespect and unhinged mockery. It's bad for the country and bad for its image. The majority of citizens with a functioning brain were able for the first time in their lives; see what and who the liberal mainstream media actually is. And if the media is going to be politically biased and antagonistic, I think it's perfectly fair for Trump to tell them that he won’t accept their lies and behavior on how they are reporting their so-called news.
The media has always been politically biased and antagonistic, history shows this to be so, and those who know this filter what they say. The issue is that they claim that they are not and so few call them out on it that they can blow off any criticism without the viewers questioning them. In the past, having relatively few news choices and practically no way to compare what others around the country were saying, the public was limited to what was available.
This has changed and the MSM is frightened as their crusade bias regarding their fake news shows was on display for everyone to see during the nomination race and now prior to Donald Trump assuming the office of President. I believe that Trump is in effect telling them that their glory days are over and that he will not be held hostage to their ways. It appears that Donald Trump simply won't take any crap from them or anyone else. He, and hopefully like most of America, is sick of what the media has become. But, I do not believe his meeting will stop what they are doing. If anything they will all turn their hate for Donald Trump to an even higher level.
