Alejandro Villanueva Defies Steelers' Anthem
Protest And Takes Field With Hand Over Heart

Breitbart -- All but one of the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to protest by staying in their locker room, during the playing of the national anthem at this afternoon’s game in Chicago. The lone dissenter was former Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva who bucked the team’s decision and took the field, anyway, hand over his heart and helmet under his arm.

On Sunday morning, reports emerged that the Steelers had decided to stay in their locker room despite league rules requiring the team to be on the sidelines during the playing of the national anthem.

By game time, the team did, indeed, fulfill their announced intentions. However, Villanueva defied his team and took the field:

The entire Pittsburgh Steelers team stayed in the locker room for national anthem except for Villanueva who served 3 tours in Afghanistan.

This isn’t the first time the Steelers’ offensive tackle has been at odds with fellow players over anthem protests.

Last year, Villanueva criticized Colin Kaepernick for his protests during the national anthem:

“I don’t know if the most effective way is to sit down during the national anthem with a country that’s providing you freedom, providing you $16 million a year … when there are black minorities that are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for less than $20,000 a year,” Villanueva said of the anthem protests.

The Mississippi native has a good reason for his position. He is himself a veteran with three tours of duty in Afghanistan.

Villanueva was a Captain in the U.S. Army during much of his service overseas and now stands at the rank of Major in the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He was also the recipient of the Bronze Star with “V” device.

Even as he continued his Army career, Villanueva was given several workouts with teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadelphia Eagles. He remained unsigned after the Eagles took him off the practice squad, though, until Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin signed him in 2014.

Villanueva is now starting left tackle with a four-year, $24 million contract with the Steelers.

Blog Author's Comments: Alejandro Villanueva is a veteran and a hero. He understands the meaning of the flag and the anthem. The other spoiled, privileged impudent children, on his team and around the league, apparently have no clue just how many men and women made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives so the protestors are able to play their game for large salaries.

That's what the flag and anthem are about and someone should tell them that. But it will not be many of the team owners or the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. But, because our president was truthful with what he said, now it is all his fault. Thank you Alejandro Villanueva for showing the other members of your team what a real man and patriot does. The Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin was of no help either, he also hid in the locker room while the anthem was played. I hope that President Trump invites Alejandro Villanueva and only him, with his family to the White House for a private tour and dinner.

Super Bowl 2011 - Steelers vs. Packers

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers

More Say Steelers Will Win Super Bowl Over Packers, 44% - 34%

zogby.com - The gambling odds makers have the Green Bay Packers as a slight favorite in this Sunday's Super Bowl, but by 44%-34% adults in a Zogby Interactive poll say the Pittsburgh Steelers will win the game. The rest, 23%, were not sure.

The interactive poll of 2,100 adults has a margin of error of +/-2.2%. A sampling of Zogby International's online panel, which is representative of the adult population of the U.S., was invited to participate. Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender, and education to more accurately reflect the population.

Blog author's comments - This year's match-up could make for an interesting game. If I were betting I believe I would have to put my money on the Steelers.

The Steelers team has players who have played in the big game before and have won two Super Bowls. This could make the difference in the outcome.
