Athletic shoe giant Nike has debuted its new “Just Do It” ad featuring former NFL player and original anthem protester Colin Kaepernick. The ad comes only days before the kickoff of the 2018 NFL regular season.
The ad features an extreme close-up of Kaepernick gazing into the camera with the caption, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything,” over his face, The Hollywood Reporter said.
Kaepernick has had an endorsement contract with the sportswear maker since 2011, but has not played professional football since the end of the 2016 NFL season.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback invented the protests during the anthem when he took a knee during the song throughout the 2016 season. But he hasn’t played since that year as once he turned free agent at the end of the season, he subsequently found no team interested in signing him.
By 2017 Kaepernick charged the league with “colluding” to keep him from pursuing his NFL career and filed a grievance against the NFL with the players association. After dozens of depositions were taken, an arbitrator determined last month that the case would go to trial.

Blog Author's Comments: At one time, the NFL and Nike would have gotten away with this and been forgiven. But, as soon as they found out how the country and Veterans felt about it and how it showed disrespect for all those who gave their lives for our country, a sensible person or company with a real cause would have stopped and found a different way of protesting. Instead, many chose to show their dislike for the country and all those who sacrificed so much.
To me the flag is one item that represents the many thousands of young men who gave their life fighting for our freedom and democracy. We are not perfect but we are the most charitable, compassionate nation on earth. Kneeling is not about the right to kneel, it's about disrespect. Nike is now on board with it. I would think the company will lose revenue and it was not a good decision on their part.
There is just one problem here, and that is, how is it that a couple years in to all this does it appear that all is fine with the NFL. Back when it started the level of outrage indicated doom for the NFL. To me, I believe that a percentage of the outrage is phony, in that some people claim outrage but still watch and support the NFL.
The kneelers have ruined the game for many people. For many Americans the NFL games was a welcome relief from the day to day work week and a break from the politics being played, by the mainstream media. And, what were once highly respected government agencies, they no longer exist for those who have been paying attention.
