No More Halloween! The Feds Say That
Jack-O-Lanterns Cause Global Warming

Inhabitat -- Because it’s the government’s job to make you feel guilty about everything, the feds have decided that you’re contributing to global warming by buying pumpkins.

Of course, just in time for Halloween, the Department of Energy is claiming Jack-o-Lanterns contribute to climate change because most of the burned, rotten pumpkins get tossed in the trash, the Washington Free Beacon is reporting.

“With the passing of Halloween, millions of pounds of pumpkins have turned from seasonal decorations to trash destined for landfills, adding to more than 254 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) produced in the United States every year,” a post to the Energy Department’s website this week read.

“At landfills, MSW decomposes and eventually turns into methane–a harmful greenhouse gas that plays a part in climate change, with more than 20 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide (CO2),” the government agency warned.

So (and this is going to cost money, folks, so hold onto your wallets), the Energy Department is going to develop “biorefineries” that would convert plants like pumpkins into biofuel to “have a positive environmental and energy impact.”

“When MSW is used to harness bioenergy–rather than simply being thrown away–the end result benefits the environment and helps our nation become less dependent on carbon-based fuel,” the webpage read.

“Harnessing the potential of bioenergy allows the United States to generate its own supply of clean energy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. It also limits stress on landfills by reducing waste and could ultimately create jobs for manufacturing, installing, and maintaining energy systems.”

The United States produces 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins each year, according to the federal agency.

Nothing’s scarier than an out-of-control federal government.
Blog Author's Comments -- I see a similarity between ever increasing things that are considered racist and things that cause global warming. The link in both concepts is pushed on us by liberals. That there has been no global warming since the 90's, and that white racism is miniscule compared to black racism are more examples of liberals calling reality by it's opposite. Pumpkins are completely biodegradable and shouldn't even be in a conversation about MSW. Then again, it's no surprise Obama's Department of Energy is manipulating the subject for their own political agenda.
