Blog Author's Comments: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), during a speech on the Senate floor Monday, debunked the Democrat “myth” that there is not sufficient time to examine and confirm a Supreme Court nominee prior to the presidential election, contending that “history and precedent make that perfectly clear.”
McConnell railed against what he called the left’s “pre-vacancy” threats and moved to lampoon the widespread narrative that the Senate does not have sufficient time to consider and confirm President Trump’s forthcoming Supreme Court nominee.
After the Russia hoax, the Kavanaugh hearings fiasco, Impeachment, the Mueller investigation, the Democrats deserve anything harmful that happens to them. They have the Constitutional obligation to proceed with the Supreme Court nomination process. The GOP Senate must seat another Justice, for the good of our country. Finally the Republicans are pushing back.
Mitch McConnell, told the Democrats in 2013 that they would 'regret' changing the rule to 51 votes to confirm a judge. Now, make them feel remorse about what they did, fill the seat, do what has to be done. All Republican members of the Senate must back their party and President Trump.
On Wednesday Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) subpoenaed Donald Trump Jr. to retestify before the Senate Intelligence Committee in an attempt to continue to harass the president’s family.
Several RINO Republicans support Burr and his latest attempt to harass Donald Trump Jr.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) correctly described Burr’s stunt as the continued “persecution” of the president’s family.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has the power to shut this probe down. But so far he will not act.
McConnell assured Sean Hannity on Thursday night that the subpoena of Donald Trump Jr. was “no big deal” and that it would have a “happy ending.”
But McConnell did not say what he would do to end Senator Burr’s harassment.
This was another shameful display by the GOP leader who failed to get enough Republicans to support the president’s border wall. These Republicans do not represent their voters.
(Via: GWP ) Blog Author's Comments: Mitch McConnell is a well known NeverTrumper and actually worked in an attempt to prevent him from winning the primary. He also did not support Trump during the election. Many people do not know that he and Ryan were expecting Hillary Clinton to win and already had legislation ready for her to sign. That is why he said that he was totally surprised when President Trump defeated Clinton. He wanted to coast for the next four years and not have someone in charge that expected him to work for the American people.
McConnell may ride in at the last minute to stop this and pretend that he is the good guy, if so he should have already done so. He may write a short note to Burr telling him that he should not be doing what he has planned, but I doubt it. Apparently Burr is enjoying himself. He will not win reelection and McConnell is not running in 2020. Two more pieces of wasted baggage will be gone from the GOP. This shows, if you did not know by now, what type of people many of them are that are representing us.
GP -- Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) went on with Varney and Co. to discuss the Trump agenda following Steve Bannon’s absence in the White House.
Gohmert told the FBN audience that Speaker Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are “slow-walking” President Trump’s agenda that they don’t like.
"Rep. Gohmert: If you look back before the election Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell were totally opposed to the things that got Donald Trump elected. And I told the president back in June, you are being slow-walked. We are being slow-walked. This is exactly what happened in 2005. Dennis Hastert and Bill Frisk, you know they were kind of OK with reforming Social Security but they really didn’t want the heavy lift. They slow-walked everything… I’m telling you that is exactly the way some of our leadership is thinking again. We’re going to eke by."
Blog Author's Comments: During the past few months their inaction makes me wonder what the - resistance is they are really planning when they are back in session - instead of doing their jobs. Lets remember, the same Republicans in the House making excuses, are the same ones who just voted Ryan to be the Speaker again, there was only one defection. And the GOP lawmakers put a repeal of the Obamacare bill on Obama's desk in 2015 because they knew he wouldn’t sign it. They did not put a repeal bill on Trump's desk because they knew he would sign it.
McConnell could not make himself twist one more arm of either Mikulski or Collins and perhaps ask his fellow Senators to help convince them to do the right thing for the party and the president. There is no talking to McCain because of his hatred for Trump. Quite strange how short the memories of some voters are in many states, not to remember how the people they continue to reelect have previously voted in either the House or Senate. Case in point, Arizona with McCain.
Rep. Gohmert is confirming the reality, when Congress is back in session that nothing will be done, except more excuses or broken promises. Unless it is something President Trump can do on his own it won’t be completed. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell do not like Trump's agenda, yet his voters do. They also do not believe Trump belongs in the White House and their leader. McConnell has admitted that he was surprised that Trump won and Ryan held out with his so-called fake support for the president until after he was elected. Town Hall -- Lawmakers are sticking up for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after President Trump publicly criticized him for allowing Congress to go on recess without checking important legislative items off their to do list.
McConnell defended himself with an indefensible line about the president having too many expectations.
Trump had a simple, yet effective response, reminding McConnell about his and his colleagues' seven year failed promise to the American people.
Donald J. Trump tweeted: Senator Mitch McConnell said
I had "excessive expectations," but I don't think so. After 7 years of hearing Repeal and Replace
why not done?
2:14 PM - Aug 9, 2017
"It's a good point. Yet, GOP senators are rushing to their leader's defense. Sen. Orrin Hatch (UT) let McConnell know on Twitter that he has his "full support."
Sen. Orin Hatch tweeted: Senate Majority Leader has been the best leader we've had in my time in the Senate, through very tough challenges. I fully support him.
3:31 PM - Aug 10, 2017
Other senators followed Hatch's Twitter lead. Sen. Jeff Flake (AZ) wrote that McConnell "does a tough job well and he "has his support."
Sen. John Cornyn (TX) said more of the same.
John Cornyn tweeted: Passing POTUS's legislative agenda requires a team effort. No one is more qualified than Mitch McConnell to lead Senate in that effort.
9:58 AM - Aug 11, 2017
He may be "qualified," but many conservatives would argue he has little to show this year for his political resume.Blog Author's Comments: We must always remember that these are career politicians. This is all most of them have known and want to do for the salary and lifetime benefits they will receive when they are either voted out of office or decide to retire. The senators are voted to office for a six year term. And can continually be reelected as long as they are able. President Trump was elected for a four year term. He has been put through hell by the Democrats, the majority of the media, attempting to deal with the 'fake news concerning 'Russian collusion' for as long as he has been president, when there has been zero proof that this ever happened or had any impact on the election. Now, he is trying to do his job and pass an agenda that will help the majority of the American people and is fighting his own party in an attempt to get something of substance done.
Trump had a very successful and good life, prior to running for the presidency. Now, special counsel Robert Mueller and his army of never-Trumper lawyers, who are supposed to be investigating Russian collusion, are allegedly now digging into his personal finances, many of the business dealing he has had over the years, his life and that of his family. And the only reason for all of this is an attempt to remove our duly elected president from office.
Senator Orin Hatch said - the Senate Majority Leader has been the best leader we’ve had in my time in the Senate. Well sir that may be the problem. If Republican Senators don't understand why McConnell's comments were politically inept then they should seek employment elsewhere. After seven years of promising to repeal and replace Obamacare on day one, the failure to do so after seven months should not be defended with talk of "excessive expectations" and pleas for more time.
Trump is calling them out and McConnell is a typical politician. He and the rest of the GOP and Democrats need to understand that they indeed do and should be working for all of us. I will give McConnell a bit of a break over the Obamacare repeal and replace 'skinny version' bill, they recently tried to pass. Three of the RINO’s changed their minds and wouldn't support it this time when they knew Trump would sign it. The version that was passed in 2015 was because they all knew Obama would veto it. Though I still believe McConnell could have been much more vocal, forceful, persuasive and do some serious 'arm twisting' of the Republican senators who failed to fall in line and help both their party the president and the country. President Trump Thanks Putin For Removing US Diplomats
Breitbart -- Tuesday on Bloomberg, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he recommended chief judge of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Merrick Garland to President Donald Trump to replace James Comey as FBI Director.
McConnell said, “I have spoken with the president about it. I recommended Merrick Garland.”
He continued, “Yeah, it may surprise people, but he has a deep background in criminal law. He was the prosecutor in the Oklahoma City bombing case. And I think it would make it clear that President Trump will continue the tradition at the FBI of having an apolitical professional.”
He added, “It would be good to have Democratic support. And I think if he picks someone with a deep background in law enforcement who has no history of political involvement, a genuine expert — and the reason I mention Garland, he’s an example of that — it will serve him well, serve the country well and lead to, I think, a more bipartisan approach.”
Last year Leader McConnell blocked Garland’s Supreme Court nomination by former President Barack Obama after the death of Antonin Scalia.
Blog Author's Comments: Garland wasn't conservative enough for the high court, but McConnell believes everything would be okay with him running the FBI? McConnell is spineless and Garland is a liberal Democrat, is there anything acceptable or satisfactory about either one of these people? I am hopeful that this will be McConnell's last term in office. He and Ryan are no help at all. The both may as well join the Democratic Party with the way they are conducting themselves. And let us not forget, McConnell and Ryan are supposed to be the leaders of the Senate and House. This shows that in politics anything can happen. Neither of them expected Donald Trump to even win the nomination much less be our president.
Senate Majority Leader McConnell is a Trump backstabber, just like the rest of his "leadership" team, and their counterparts in the House. I have absolutely no respect for Mitch McConnell, none at all. This behavior is exactly why President Trump is having a difficult time passing his agenda, which the country desperately needs. And the Republicans are not lifting a finger to help him; they are undermining him at every turn.
The GOP’s, so called, leadership is still obsessed with making the Democrats happy, and keeping the press off their backs. Can it get any worse then Mitch McConnell? Is it possible to have a few Republican leaders who will stop bowing to the Democrats and liberal media? I cannot remember anything McConnell said that was worth listening to. Go back to the farm Mitch and let the big boys fight the 'fake news' networks and the losers in the Democrat Party. The Senate and House leaders don’t seem to understand or they don’t care, that if they take a pass with regard to helping Trump be a successful president, America may never again elect a Republican to the White House.
There is some good news concerning what the RINO McConnell had to say. U.S. appeals court judge Merrick Garland, turned away by the Senate last year for a Supreme Court post, is not interested in serving as FBI director, two sources said on Tuesday, even as the top Senate Republican recommended him for the job.
Down Trend -- After Democrats blocked the nomination of President Trump’s SCOTUS nominee Neil Gorsuch, Senate Republicans lead by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell changed the rules of the senate by applying the “Nuclear Option.”
The rule change means Gorsuch and all future Supreme Court nominees can be confirmed with a simple majority vote and will no longer face a 60-vote hurdle in the chamber now controlled by Republicans 52-48.
Democrats may have shot themselves in the foot as other justices could retire in the next few years of Donald Trump’s presidency. The rule change almost guarantees a Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch.
Blog Author's Comments: How the left paved the way for the probable confirmation of Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch, who would otherwise have been blocked by the still seething Democrats over the election. A little over three years ago, Senator Mitch McConnell stood On the Senate floor and issued a warning to the Democrats who then controlled the majority. "I say to my friends on the other side of the aisle, you'll regret this," McConnell, then the minority leader, told them. "And you may regret it a lot sooner than you think."
At the urging of Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrats had voted along strict party lines to change the rules of the Senate, deploying what had become known in Washington as the "the nuclear option." McConnell and his Republican colleagues were furious. Under the new rules, presidential nominees for all executive branch positions, including the cabinet and judicial vacancies could be advanced with a simple majority of 51 votes. The 60 vote threshold for overcoming a filibuster on nearly all nominations was dead.
The right and the backers of President Trump now give much thanks to dirty little Harry Reid and his leftist colleagues. My hope is that 2 or 3 more Supreme Court Justices decide to retire, or in some way leave the court, so President Trump can nominate more justices to fill their positions on the high court, and make the court a Republican leaning court for many decades.
Breitbart -- Over the weekend, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) did exactly what gun owners have been waiting for someone in a position of power to do--he vowed to stand between the Second Amendment and Obama's relentless gun grabbing efforts.
Speaking to Kentucky voters, McConnell said: President Obama and his team are doing everything in their power to restrict your constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Their efforts to restrict your rights, invading your personal privacy and overstepping their bounds with executive orders, are just plain wrong...I will do everything in my power as Senate Republican leader, fighting tooth and nail, to protect your Second Amendment rights.
McConnell said Obama's gun grab must be stopped so "law-abiding citizens" can "properly and accurately" defend themselves, their families, and their country.
Last week, Kentucky's junior Senator Rand Paul (R) took a similar position, when he vowed that he will introduce legislation nullifying Obama's executive orders on guns.
Blog author's comments - Because Sen. McConnell is up for reelection in 2014 this may give him more incentive to attempt to do what he said he would. I also hope the Speaker of the House John Boehner and the GOP members of the House will push back against Obama and not allow any new gun laws.
There are 20 US Senate seats up for re-election in 2014 that are currently held by Democrats. While the Republicans are defending 13 seats in mostly conservative states, Democrats are defending a mixture of liberal, moderate, and conservative seats. The GOP would need to swing 6 seats to take control of the US Senate. Perhaps if the pressure which will be put on some of these Democrat Senators by members of their own party does not sway them to vote for any new gun laws, Harry Reid may not allow a gun control bill to come to the floor of the Senate.
Barack Obama and the Democrats have their gun control goal that will put an unprecedented assault on gun owners rights and they believe now is their best chance to get much of what they want passed into law. If the Republicans will fight him on this, their action may help the GOP hold on to the House in the mid-term elections. There are many Democratic Party voters and gun owners who do not want more gun laws.
