Blog Author's Remarks: It is truly amazing how much young people really believe this planet has a limited number of days of habitat for humanity remaining. They have so bought into the apocalypse of climate change that it is something that to many Millennials, more than you would ever know, actively scares them every day, has them upset every day. They have been propagandized.
They have been so indoctrinated with the pessimism of their own demise, their own destruction, that other human beings, their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents have caused. They are told that we’re going to run out of natural resources in five years, 10 years, 15, 20 years, that we’ve got to get a handle on the population. We cannot possibly sustain life supporting systems on this planet with any more people on it. We simply can’t.
They have been inundated with apocalyptic point after apocalyptic point. And you can’t blame them. They’ve been assaulted with this from the very earliest of their formative years. And this pessimism and this apocalyptic tint to everything, it works. Pessimism sells. Crisis creates immediate attention spans.
And what has accompanied all of this is the inclusion of the possibility of redemption. We might be able to save the planet. We might be able to sustain life supporting systems “if.” And the if requires that all of these kids that bought into this stuff essentially support socialism. Socialism, not by name, has been presented as the salvation or the solution, government running things. They must accept the belief that their activities and the activities of their parents and grandparents have led to the near end of life supporting systems on the planet.
They can be redeemed, however, if they admit to this and then take immediate steps to live different lives than their parents, grandparents, and great grandparents did. And there are so many people that have fallen for it, that is alarming.
Dana Loesh: Would you limit the ban and confiscation to semi-auto rifles or would you extend the ban to semi-auto handguns also, seeing as they’re illegally used many times over more in crimes such as homicide?
Rep. Eric Swalwell: Fair question. Rifles. They’re more powerful and cause more carnage when used with a pistol-grip. To reduce semi-auto pistol deaths I’d have universal background checks and mandatory reporting on mental health.
California Democrat Eric Swalwell on Friday said the U.S. government would use its nuclear weapons in a hypothetical war against Second Amendment Supporters refusing to give up their firearms.
The California Democrat, who is openly considering a run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2020, made the outlandish remark on social media after a gun-rights advocate pointed out that the lawmaker once called for gun owners to surrender their assault weapons.
“So basically @RepSwalwell wants a war. Because that's what you would get. You're outta your f------ mind if you think I'll give up my rights and give the government all the power," Joe Biggs tweeted at Swalwell.
This prompted Swalwell to defend himself, saying it would be a “short war” because “the government has nukes,” implying the government would use its nuclear arsenal against its own citizens.
The comment drew an immediate backlash, with thousands of people criticizing the lawmaker for the ill-thought-out remark.
“Here is an actual member of the U.S. Congress talking about using nuclear weapons against Americans,” David Freddoso wrote. “Personally, I have a bigger problem with an elected official blithely talking about nuking his fellow Americans than my neighbor owning an AR-15,” Cam Edwards tweeted.
Swalwell -- a member of both the House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee -- tried to defuse the situation, saying the need for a firearm to protect against the government is “ludicrous” and suggested that if an assault weapon ban would happen, people would just follow the law.
And Swalwell is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee...Go figure!
