NY Post -- Fort Lauderdale cops busted nine people caught on camera looting a Florida shoe store amid the chaos of Hurricane Irma on Sunday.
The arrests came after local TV station WPLG recorded the crooks entering the Simon’s Sportswear shop on West Sunrise Boulevard through a broken window and running off with merchandise.
The suspects also targeted the nearby Cash America pawn shop, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
“Going to prison over a pair of sneakers is a fairly bad life choice,” Police Chief Rick Maglione said in a statement posted on Twitter.
“Stay home and look after your loved ones and be thankful they are safe.”
Earlier in the day, the department posted mug shots of two men charged in other hurricane-related crimes.
“Can’t say we didn’t warn you…Ryan Cook and Max Saintvil each face 6 counts of burglary from overnight #HurricaneIrma,” the department tweeted.
Blog Author's Comments: During the aftermath of a hurricane you can never have too many 'Air Jordan’s'. It was heard said, that the sneakers were needed to out run the hurricane. In other news, not a single bookstore was looted. Looting during a state of emergency is a no-bond felony in Florida, have a pleasant stay in jail looters. This is just another facet of Barrack Hussein Obama's wealth redistribution. There's a huge factor involved in this, having one parent or none at all. Two parent homes are the solution to many of society's ills.
I say that these looters are lucky; the owners of the shop could have been guarding their store, hoping to get through the storm, but with 12 gauge shotguns within easy reach. If a few shots were fired the word would get out not to 'loot that store.' It's pretty sad that during a state of emergency, one leaves their shop and these people are stealing as much stuff as they can carry. Every picture I saw showed black people as the folks that were doing the looting. It only takes a few to give the impression to many, as to who is doing the majority of crime in America.
