AP -- Former U.S. Democrat Representative Corrine Brown was found guilty on 18 of 22 charges for fraud and tax evasion during trial verdict Thursday in federal court in Jacksonville.
Brown was found guilty of taking tens-of-thousands of dollars from her One Door for Education Foundation, a charity for poor and impoverished children, and putting the money into her personal accounts for use in maintaining an indulgent lifestyle.
She was also found guilty of conspiring within the scheme to defraud donors to the foundation, and guilty of attempts to impede/obstruct the investigation.
Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown has been found guilty of taking money from a charity that was purported to be giving scholarships to poor students.
The jury’s verdict on Thursday came after prosecutors accused the 70-year-old Brown of using hundreds of thousands of dollars from the One Door for Education Foundation for lavish parties, trips and shopping excursions.
She was found guilty on 18 of the 22 counts against her, including lying on tax and financial disclosure forms.
Brown, a Democrat who represented the Florida district that included Jacksonville since 1993, had pleaded not guilty to all charges including fraud.
Brown’s former chief of staff, Elias “Ronnie” Simmons, and One Door’s president pleaded guilty after their federal indictments for misusing the charity’s funds, and testified against Brown.
Simmons said Brown ordered him to take cash and checks from One Door’s account that was put into the congresswoman’s personal accounts.
Blog Author's Comments: Rep. Corrine Brown is a Democrat, and this is what many elected Democrats do. One would think the blacks in our country and particularity her district should be very upset, at least those that pay attention to what their elected officials do. And here is a case of an African American female who will probably be sent to jail for fraud/conspiracy/obstruction, while Hillary Clinton, a white female corrupt, former politician, is walking around scot free. This is a terrible injustice, happening right before our very eyes, but the upside to the Clinton story would be, that she is not America’s president and never will be. The fact that Brown was elected and reelected since 1993 speaks volumes about her district. Without a doubt, the black hustler class will laud her as a victim of racism.
Sadly, she’s probably not the only member of Congress in both parties, engaged in these kinds of shady practices. Within a few days, I would not be surprised to hear the mainstream media tell us she was framed by Trump and the Russians. There is an old quote that some attribute to Thomas Jefferson that says, “When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty”. Our duty as Americans is to resist all forms of tyranny and loss of liberty. Things may get much worse before we see daylight but resist we must. Stand with great men that have come before us. Keep draining that Swamp. I hope Brown’s punishment matches the severity of her crimes.
