Major Newspaper Pulls Cartoon Critical Of Obama's Executive
Action On Immigration Because Of Claims Cartoon Was 'Racist'
Action On Immigration Because Of Claims Cartoon Was 'Racist'
The Blaze -- After the Indianapolis Star published a political cartoon on Friday that was decidedly against President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration reform, the paper’s executive editor Jeff Taylor said many readers were offended and called it “racist.”
So on Saturday the Star pulled the political cartoon by Gary Varvel. Taylor said Varvel “did not intend to be racially insensitive in his attempt to express his strong views” about the issue but added that ”we erred in publishing it.”
More from Taylor’s column in the Star:
The cartoon depicted an immigrant family climbing through a window of a white family’s home as Thanksgiving dinner was served. I was uncomfortable with the depiction when I saw it after it was posted. We initially decided to leave the cartoon posted to allow readers to comment and because material can never truly be eliminated once it is circulating on the web. But we are removing the cartoon from the opinion section of our website, as well as an earlier version posted on Facebook that showed one character with a mustache.
The second version of the cartoon showed the character without a mustache, but every other element appeared the same as the first version.
“This action is not a comment on the issue of illegal immigration or a statement about Gary’s right to express his opinions strongly,” Taylor continued. “We encourage and support diverse opinion.[...]
More from Taylor:
Cartoons are seldom intended to be read literally. And Gary did not intend this one to be viewed that way. He intended to illustrate the view of many conservatives and others that the president’s order will encourage more people to pour into the country illegally.
The illegal immigration issue evokes strong opinions and emotions. And it’s important to encourage a vigorous public debate on issues of this magnitude, but with respectful discourse. That is what we believe at IndyStar and that is what we will continue to do – to publish views from all sides as we explore the important issues that will define the future of our nation, state and city.
Blog author's comments - The cartoon was accurate and timely. It expresses the opinion of a great many people but because it doesn't genuflect at the altar of holy diversity the weak executive editor Jeff Taylor does not want to upset anyone. The truth is inherently racist, if you're a progressive. You must inoculate the public from it by shutting down any criticism. I just wonder how many complaints the paper had. We have to stop this recent culture of people telling us they're offended and expecting us to give a damn.
If the progressives maintain their control of the media, academia and government, this country will go down the drain only slightly behind the UK. What Obama has created is millions more people living off the working legal citizens. Obama does not care if he has done damage to the country, he has helped the Democratic Party with a continuous supply of Democrat voters as soon as the illegals are given citizenship and that will happen.
What about the majority of readers of that newspaper who were offended by the pulling of the cartoon? I guess they don't count these days. The cartoonist Varvel hit the nail squarely on the head with his cartoon. As more illegals flood across our borders the crime rate will increase because of the lawless Obama's executive order. And the borders will remain open allowing many more illegals to come in. Within the not to distant future the Republican Party will never elect a president. This is the goal of Obama the Democrats and all liberals.

Truth Revolt -- Writing for The New York Times, Michael Shear proposes that President Obama is "poised to ignore stark warnings that executive action on immigration would amount to 'violating our laws' and would be 'very difficult to defend legally.'"
Warnings, Shear notes, that did not come from the GOP but "from Mr. Obama himself."
Shear took a walk through memory lane exposing all the times the president has declared that he would be "ignoring the law" if he acted alone in granting amnesty to illegal immigrants:
•Telemundo, September 2013 — “If we start broadening [the protections given to Dreamers], then essentially I’ll be ignoring the law in a way that I think would be very difficult to defend legally. So that’s not an option.”
•Google Hangout, February 2013 — After an activist asked Obama to keep families from being "broken apart" -- “This is something that I have struggled with throughout my presidency. The problem is, is that I’m the president of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States. My job is to execute laws that are passed.”
•Immigration speech San Francisco, November 2013 — To a protester yelling, "Stop deportations!" -- “The easy way out is to try to yell and pretend like I can do something by violating our laws and what I’m proposing is the harder path [only Congress has the authority].”
•Town Hall meeting, March 2011 — The nation's laws are clear and "for me to simply, through executive order, ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as president.”
The White House began twisting these words on Monday, Shear points out, to mean something different now that the president is proposing executive amnesty. They are calling it "a change in emphasis, not a change in opinion." Shear writes:
"They said Mr. Obama’s previous comments emphasized the limits of his authority because at the time he was actively making the case for Congress to pass an immigration overhaul. Now, he emphasizes his ability to act."
After meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder for some "legal advice" on his limitations, Shear quotes Obama's statement from Sunday: “I would be derelict in my duties if I did not try to improve the system that everybody acknowledges is broken."
Blog author's comments - What Obama is supposedly going to do as early as this Thursday, November 20, 2014 is to use 'executive action' on immigration to grant amnesty to over 5 million illegal immigrants. If he does this it is against the law, the Constitution and not within his power to do. A president signs bills that are proposed to him by Congress, a President does not write bills and put them into law. The only issue that Obama cares about is to ensure the Democratic Party's political dominance. The only way to do that is importing more democratic voters. Many people say that the system is broken. But the majority of citizens believe our immigration laws are not broken, they will work if the laws as written are enforced.
I have seen the liberal talking heads of the mainstream media say "well Ronald Regan did the same thing with executive action.” This is not true; Regan signed an act of Congress, 'The Immigration Reform and Control Act' which reformed United States immigration law. And Reagan admitted that it was his greatest mistake because he trusted that Democrats would help secure the border after the bill was passed and they, of course, did not. Obama is a lawless president and no doubt the worst and most corrupt in the history of the United States.

Truth Revolt -- Law Street Media has released their annual list of the highest crime cities in America and there's a common denominator that runs through the list. Each and every city has a Democrat mayor except the number 10 city which has a non-partisan election, (but let's face it, it's Kansas City so he's probably a Dem too.)
The cities with populations over 200,000 ranked as the most dangerous are:
1. Detroit, MI - Mayor Mike Duggan - DEMOCRAT
2. Oakland, CA - Mayor Jean Quan - DEMOCRAT
3. Memphis, TN - Mayor A C Wharton - DEMOCRAT
4. St. Louis, MO - Mayor Francis G. Slay - DEMOCRAT
5. Cleveland, OH - Mayor Frank G. Jackson - DEMOCRAT
6. Baltimore, MD - Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake - DEMOCRAT
7. Milwaukee, WI - Mayor Tom Barrett - DEMOCRAT
8. Birmingham, AL - Mayor William A. Bell - DEMOCRAT
9. Newark, NJ - Mayor Ras Baraka - DEMOCRAT
10. Kansas City, MO - Mayor Sly James - Independent (but probably a DEMOCRAT)
Keep up the great work, Democrats. Doing a helluva job. Also, great job voting for one-party rule all you unions and inner-city residents. How's that working out for you?
Blog author's comments - This is no surprise to me, whatever the Democrats are in charge of usually goes bad. The reason in this case is that the mayors were elected by a primarily Democrat voting base. Many of these Democrat voters, but certainly not all, are under achievers and minorities and will vote for the people who will promise them help from the government.
Many of the people in these cities allow the government to care for them and this becomes their way of life. With a low paying job or no job at all they will turn to crime in an attempt to supplement their income. The Democrat city leaders will tie the hands of law enforcement and encourage the welfare life. Within the minority communities a large majority of children are born without a father to provide for them and many of the fatherless children are likely to turn to a life of crime and end up in prison. So this becomes a continuous cycle which brings the city down and increases more crime.

Washington Examiner -- Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are calling on Loretta Lynch to say whether she supports executive action providing relief to millions of illegal immigrants.
President Obama formally announced on Saturday morning his decision to name Lynch, a U.S. attorney for New York, as his nominee to replace Eric Holder as attorney general. Lynch would be the first African-American woman to head the Justice Department and the second woman in history.
Reacting to her nomination, Cruz, R-Texas, and Lee, R-Utah, agreed that Lynch deserves “fair and full” Senate consideration, but said she should make clear whether she supports Obama’s decision to move forward with executive action granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants already in the country.
“The attorney general is the president’s chief law enforcement officer,” Cruz and Lee said in a statement on Saturday. “As such, the nominee must demonstrate a complete commitment to the law.”
“Loretta Lynch deserves the opportunity to demonstrate those qualities, beginning with a statement on whether or not she believes the president’s executive amnesty plans are constitutional and legal,” they continued.
Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., an outspoken opponent of any type of relief for illegal immigrants without first strengthening the nation’s borders, sent a release to reporters Friday pointing out his previous comments, along with similar points made by Cruz, Lee and Kentucky GOP Sens. Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, that any nominee for attorney general must reject Obama’s plans to provide amnesty through executive action.
Obama again pledged Wednesday, one day after Democrats were roundly defeated at the polls and lost majority control of the Senate, to issue an executive order before the end of the year granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants unless Congress passes a comprehensive immigration reform bill.
Cruz and Lee warned Senate Democrats against moving forward with plans to hold a vote on Lynch’s nomination during the lame-duck session of Congress, when Democrats still have majority control before Republicans take over in the new year.
“President Obama’s attorney general nominee deserves fair and full consideration of the United States Senate, which is precisely why she should not be confirmed in the lame-duck session of Congress by senators who just lost their seats and are no longer accountable to the voters,” they said.
McConnell, in a tersely worded statement Friday night, also warned Senate Democrats not to move her nomination until the new year
Blog author's comments - I don't see how Loretta Lynch could be as bad of an Attorney General as Eric Holder, but we shall see. It's a good thing what Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are doing, but she will lie or evade the question. She will do whatever Obama tells her to do. Just because the Democrats got stomped during the midterms their actions and attitude will not change. Obama has his agenda which he wants to accomplish to do more damage to America before his term of president is over and he will do whatever he can to attain it.
"Cruz, R-Texas, and Lee, R-Utah, agreed that Lynch deserves “fair and full” Senate consideration, but said she should make clear whether she supports Obama’s decision to move forward with executive action granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants already in the country." These people who Obama wants to give amnesty to ignored our existing laws. They are 'illegal' and should not be allowed in our country. I realize it will not happen, but they should all be sent back to where they came from and our borders secured. Until this is done the GOP should not agree to any immigration bill.
Obama will not wait for the confirmation hearing on the new AG until after the first of the year. At this point the Democrats still have a majority in the Senate. So, they will be pushing for her confirmation. I also don't believe Obama will wait to grant 'executive amnesty' to the illegals.
He eventually wants to give the Democratic Party millions more Democrat voters. When Lynch is confirmed any criticism of her actions and the race card will continue to be played by the Democrats, liberals and mainstream media. We can always hope that in two years with the election of 2016, the Republican Party can hang on to the Senate and House and elect a Republican president.

Breitbart -- On Sunday, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said Mitt Romney is in "never never land" on amnesty, blasting the establishment Republican for declaring two days before the midterm elections that Republicans would pass an amnesty bill if they win back Congress.
"Where the heck have these GOP establishment types been during this election season? GOP Senate candidates are promising to do everything in their power to stop Obama's lawlessness, including his unjust amnesty that Americans do not support," Palin exclusively told Breitbart News. "Governor Romney is busy promoting some decent policies; perhaps that's why he clearly hasn't followed today's races because every Republican is campaigning against amnesty and every Democrat gunning for the Senate is campaigning for it. With all due respect, Governor Romney is in 'never never land' on this one."
Palin, who has championed American workers against the bipartisan permanent political class that has always wanted massive amnesty legislation, added that "every Senate Democrat candidate who voted for or supports Obama's amnesty, which will erase America's middle class, must answer for it in Tuesday's election."
"Voters have one chance to stop them. Don't let them get away with their complicity to Obama's lawlessness," Palin told Breitbart News. "Obama's unconstitutional executive amnesty will radically erode American sovereignty, and Harry Reid and his lemmings are determined to protect Obama's amnesty anyway. We can't block funding for Obama's failed policies including amnesty unless we dispatch Harry Reid. This is precisely why constitutional conservatives must win on Tuesday, meaning no votes for U.S. Senate or House candidates of the duped and dense Democrat persuasion."
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Romney, who is viewed as the current North Star of the "pale pastels" GOP establishment, said Republicans would get amnesty legislation "done" if they win back Congress on Tuesday.
"You're going to see a provision first of all to secure the border, second of all, to deal with those who have come here illegally and, third, to make sure our immigration policies are open and transparent to many people who do want to come here illegally. That's going to happen," Romney said.
A recent Fox News poll found that illegal immigration is Obama's worst issue going into the midterms, which explains why Senate Democrats begged Obama to delay his executive amnesty until after the midterm elections. And multiple national polls have found that a plurality of voters would be "less likely" to vote for candidates who support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.[...]
"It’s the American worker who is forced to deal with Obama’s latest crisis with our hard-earned tax dollars while middle class wages decrease, sustainable jobs get more scarce, and communities become unrecognizable and bankrupted due to Obama’s flood of illegal immigration," Palin wrote, urging Americans to back impeachment "on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds."
Blog author's comments - I agree with Sarah Palin concerning Romney and an amnesty bill. It was not very intelligent of him, two days before the midterms and with a chance for the Republican Party to win the Senate, to say that the GOP "would pass an amnesty bill if they win back Congress."
Obama has already encouraged opening the borders for the many illegals who have come to our country during the past several years. And these were not only children. There were also many adult illegals who had committed crimes, were apprehended by law enforcement and then released by the administration within the United States and no one is keeping track of them.
The majority of Americans do not want an amnesty bill or illegals in the country yet Obama continues his push to pass an amnesty bill for all illegals. Given who Obama is, what we already know about him, given his policies to date, his background, it may not matter to him who runs the Senate or the House; he's going to do what he wants to do as much as he can do, during his last two years in office.
