Cancer, Obamacare Victim at Center of Political Storm

Washington Free Beacon -- Democrats attack Michigan cancer victim after being featured in political ad.

Julie Boonstra, a cancer patient who was kicked off of her health plan due to Obamacare, lashed out at Rep. Gary Peters (D., Mich.) on Saturday after lawyers for his campaign demanded that Michigan broadcasters cease airing ads featuring her story.

Boonstra, a Michigan resident, was diagnosed with leukemia five years ago. She was recently kicked off of her healthcare plan due to regulations passed as part of President Barack Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which Peters voted in favor of.

After relating her story publicly in an ad produced by the advocacy group Americans for Prosperity (AFP), Peters dispatched lawyers to prevent the spot from running on local television stations.

Boonstra, who says she is now struggling to pay out of pocket for her rising healthcare costs, told the Washington Free Beacon she is stunned by Peters’ efforts to censor her story.

“I’m appalled. I’m appalled as a mom, as a woman, and as a cancer patient, as someone living with cancer … who has stood before this nation to say, ‘I cannot afford that out of pocket expense,’” said Boonstra, who said she was given a 20 percent chance of surviving her disease. “As a Michigan resident, to silence my voice, I’m absolutely appalled.”

Peters, who is running for a seat in the Senate, instructed his legal council earlier this week to demand that stations stop running the AFP ad until additional evidence of the cancer victim’s claims could be produced.

“For the sake of both FCC licensing requirements and the public interest, your station should immediately require AFP to provide the factual documentation for its claims if you are going to continue airing this advertising,” read the letter from Peters’ lawyers.

The letter went on to question Boonstra’s motives and the facts presented in AFP’s ad.

Boonstra said she is “surprised” by what she described as the Peters campaign’s strong-arm tactics.

“I’m very surprised,” Boonstra said just an hour after she attempted to confront Peter face-to-face at his Bloomfield Hills residence. “I have every right to tell my story and express my point of view and opinion on how Obamacare has affected me.”[…]

“This [law] is hurting me,” she continued. “I thought the intention was to help and it’s not. I’m angry [Obama] lied to me. He told me I could keep my healthcare plan and that was very untrue. I just want it to be clear that I have every right to tell my story.”

Blog author’s comments – The television ad below released by Americans for Prosperity, allows Julie Boonstra to tell her story and it hits Rep. Gary Peters (D-MI) where it hurts. The AFP ad reveals how Obamacare is negatively affecting a cancer patient who lives in the Democrat’s Michigan district.

Peters voted for Obamacare but now does not want the voters to see what impact it has made on Julie Boonstra's life and the lives of many more people. In typical liberal fashion, Peters’ backers had their lawyer file paperwork to get the ad "Julie's Story: It's Time To Listen" taken off the air.

Instead of wreaking our healthcare system the way the Obamacare law has, what should have been done was to formulate a plan to help those who could not afford adequate healthcare coverage. But the law has caused many people to lose the healthcare plan which they were comfortable with and that adequately met their insurance needs.

Poll: 71% of Obama Voters, 55% Democrats
Now 'Regret' Voting For His Re-Election

Washington Examiner -- Over seven in 10 Obama voters, and 55 percent of Democrats, regret voting for President Obama’s reelection in 2012, according to a new Economist/ poll.

Conducted to test the media hype about a comeback by 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney the new poll found voters still uninspired by Romney, but also deeply dissatisfied with Obama who has so far failed to capitalize on his victory over 15 months ago.

The poll asked those who voted for Obama's reelection a simple question: “Do you regret voting for Barack Obama?”

— Overall, 71 percent said yes, 26 percent no.

— 80 percent of whites said yes, 61 percent of blacks said no and 100 percent of Hispanics said yes.

— 84 percent of women said yes, and just 61 percent of men agreed.

— 55 percent of Democrats said yes, as did 71 percent of independents.[…]

Said the poll: “In YouGov research conducted from February 6th-7th, we went about it in a slightly different way, asking people who voted for Mitt Romney or Barack Obama whether they would do it again. We found an ostensibly similar picture: 90 percent of people who voted for Romney would do it again, compared to only 79 percent of Obama voters who would.
Blog author’s comments – It has taken these people this long to realize and now regret what Obama has done and is doing to the country? Hopefully the spell is actually breaking, but now we all pay for those who voted for Obama, who took complete advantage of those who trusted him the most.

We will see how many of these voters attempt to repair just a small amount of the damage by voting against all of the Democrats in the 2014 elections. If the voters couldn't tell in Obama's first four years who and what he was, they cannot be trusted. Many of these same people will vote for Hillary Clinton if she runs and wins the Democratic nomination for the election in 2016.

I Certainly Hope So, But I'm Not Convinced

Pelosi's Play For Women In Midterm Elections

Politico -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is trying to make the midterm elections all about women.

Armed with Democratic polling, the California Democrat has for months been touting a “women’s economic agenda” in more than two dozen events across the country, with more planned soon.

The agenda is “good politics if it changes the minds [of] our colleagues,” Pelosi told POLITICO in an interview. “What are elections about? To raise the awareness of issues.”

The strategy is aimed squarely at a demographic Democrats need to win: women — especially single women who tend to vote for them, and who often stay home during midterm elections. Getting women to the ballot box in higher numbers may be the only hope for Pelosi, who last wielded the speaker’s gavel in 2010, and who most political observers believe is a long shot — at the very best — in 2014 to reclaim it.

In a bid to win the House majority and retain the Senate, national Democrats seem intent on remaking the midterm electorate to resemble the one that came out to support President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Traditionally, turnout in midterm elections has declined steeply.

Observers say it’s an uphill slog for congressional Democrats, who would need to reverse a historical trend going back to 1832 — Andrew Jackson was president — as the last time the midterms saw more voters than a presidential contest.

“History is against them,” said Michael McDonald, associate professor of government and politics at George Mason University who has studied turnout trends. “You can never say never… but I think the evidence is still against the Democrats on this.”

There’s no question the Democratic agenda is an extension of the “war on women” narrative that Democrats have been using to slam Republicans, quite effectively, in recent elections. But now, it’s been broadened to include economic issues that Democrats argue Republicans have been ignoring.[...]

Republicans, for their part, aren’t convinced the tactics being employed by Pelosi or other Democratic leaders will have any benefit come Election Day. GOP leaders look at the polling on Obamacare, as well as Obama’s own weakness on economic issues, and the traditional “six-year itch” facing incumbent presidents, and they see a big opportunity to expand their majority.

“This is clearly a defensive maneuver by Democrats since they are losing support from women who are feeling firsthand the devastating effects of Obamacare,” said Liesl Hickey, executive director of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Entire column...
Blog author's comments - Pelosi may try to make the midterm elections about the "war on women" but, I would hope that the voters now know what the impact of Obamacare is doing and will continue to do to the cost and quality of healthcare, and will not be swayed by the many ploys the Democrats will try from now until the 2014 midterms. The GOP has to keep Obama's economic agenda and his lies, and the many damaging and unconstitutional changes he is making to his signature piece of legislation, Obamacare, in the forefront, so they can hold the House and quite possibly win control of the Senate.

Poll: 58% Of GOP Oppose Citizenship For Illegals

Washington Examiner -- Republican leaders eyeing immigration reform have been shaken by new polling that shows a majority of their supporters oppose immigration reform, the Dream Act and citizenship.

“The leadership should run from this one,” said a key House leadership advisor.

According to a new YouGov poll, Republican voters are strongly opposed to the so-called “pathway to citizenship,” which some interpret as amnesty even if immigrants have to pay a fine. According to YouGov, 58 percent of Republicans oppose “providing a legal way for illegal immigrants already in the United States to become U.S. citizens.”

It breaks down this way among Republicans: 33 percent don’t want illegals to be given any legal status, 23 percent would grant only temporary residency, 13 percent would grant permanent residency but not citizenship, and 27 percent would create a pathway to citizenship.

Democrats have long supported immigration reform and have been rewarded with votes from legal immigrants, making the issue extremely partisan.

The poll provides more ammo to those in the GOP urging House Speaker John Boehner and other leaders to back away from the issue until after the midterm elections.

Entire column > >
Blog author’s comments – John Boehner are you paying attention? We do not want the illegals given amnesty. We have laws they should follow if they want to become a legal citizen of the United States. I am surprised the percentage is only 58%. And despite the talking points of the left, I have a feeling that a high percentage of Democrat citizens, not lawmakers, also oppose illegal immigration.

I suspect this is another issue that the low information/intelligence voters simply do not understand which is the effect this would have on them and what it would cost the country. This is much like Obamacare, they'll understand it after it impacts them which will be too late. The only illegal immigration bill the GOP should be working on is to secure the borders.

But chances for a broad immigration bill to pass this year took a major hit Thursday when House Speaker John Boehner ruled out any action until President Obama proves to Republicans’ satisfaction that he is serious about enforcing the laws and no longer will try to work around Congress. I must assume the pressure Boehner has been feeling has changed his mind at least for the time being. Obama will promise whatever he thinks will satisfy the Republicans, but he has lied many times before. The White House still remains optimistic that the GOP will pass a bill that will grant some kind of legal status for illegal immigrants.

From what I'm reading, not many believe that Boehner won't pass amnesty, even if he has to wait until after the elections to do so. He has created as much distrust of the Republican leadership as he is claiming the House membership feels about Obama. This issue for the Democrats is not and never has been to secure the borders, it is to increase the voter base for the Democratic Party. I hope Boehner's price for pushing this is enough to warrant losing his Speakership if the GOP holds the House.

Super Bowl XLVIII

Blog author’s comments – I did not do so well two weeks ago with my choices for the winners of the AFC and NFC championship games, so today in Super Bowl 48 I will go with Denver over Seattle. I have watched every Super Bowl game since they began. Some have been mundane games and others have been very good games.

Super Bowl Sunday for many, is another national holiday. There are also many people that will watch this game who have not seen another game during the entire National Football League season. For many it is just a chance to party. The pre-game and half-time shows, along with the commercials, have at times overshadowed the game itself. It was not like this the first decade or more that the Super Bowl game has been played.
