42 Percent of Americans Don't Think Obamacare is Law

Obama signs Affordable Care Act into law - March 23, 2010

National Review Online -- It is entirely possible that we have a public so spectacularly ill-informed, we are no longer capable of governing themselves. Here's an April tracking poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation: “Four in ten Americans (42%) are unaware that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is still the law of the land, including 12 percent who believe the law has been repealed by Congress, 7 percent who believe it has been overturned by the Supreme Court and 23 percent who say they don’t know enough to say what the status of the law is.”

With the public so vague on whether or not Obamacare is actually law, we should take all poll results with a grain of salt. But the law is even less popular than when it passed:

“Overall, the public remains as divided as ever when it comes to their overall evaluations of the health law. This month, 35 percent report a favorable view, 40 percent an unfavorable view, and a full 24 percent report they have no opinion on the law, continuing a recent trend of particularly high shares not offering an opinion. Partisans remain quite divided, with a majority of Democrats in favor (57 percent) and most Republicans opposed (67 percent).”

In terms of the law’s political future, just over half of Americans (53 percent) continue to say that they approve of efforts by opponents to change or stop the law “so it has less impact on taxpayers, employers, and health care providers”, a view which theoretically encompasses a range of positions from hard‐core repeal supporters to those who believe the law only needs minor tweaks. One in three (including more than half of Democrats) believe that the law’s opponents should accept that it is the law of the land and stop trying to block its implementation, down somewhat from January (33 percent now compared to 40 percent at the start of the year).”

How do we know the media is downplaying the problems in implementing Obamacare? When 40 percent of Americans are unaware that the law is in place.
Blog author's comments - "Forty-two percent Of Americans don't think Obamacare is law" and we wonder why the Democrats are making such strides forward...wake up, America. The Democrats along with the liberal mainstream media have been dumbing down the clueless citizens for years. That's how we got to where we are now. This poll should not surprise anyone who knew what Obama had done during his first term as president and still find it difficult to believe that the majority of voters could have reelected him to a second term.

Reps Challenge DHS Ammo Buys, Agency Using More Per Person Than Army

Fox News -- Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security is using roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army, as he and other lawmakers sharply questioned DHS officials on their "massive" bullet buys.

"It is entirely ... inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition," Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at a hearing.

The hearing itself was unusual, as questions about the department's ammunition purchases until recently had bubbled largely under the radar -- on blogs and in the occasional news article. But as the Department of Homeland Security found itself publicly defending the purchases, lawmakers gradually showed more interest in the issue.

Democratic Rep. John Tierney, D-Mass., at the opening of the hearing, ridiculed the concerns as "conspiracy theories" which have "no place" in the committee room.

But Republicans said the purchases raise "serious" questions about waste and accountability.

Chaffetz, who chairs one of the House oversight subcommittees holding the hearing Thursday, revealed that the department currently has more than 260 million rounds in stock. He said the department bought more than 103 million rounds in 2012 and used 116 million that same year -- among roughly 70,000 agents.

Comparing that with the small-arms purchases procured by the U.S. Army, he said the DHS is churning through between 1,300 and 1,600 rounds per officer, while the U.S. Army goes through roughly 350 rounds per soldier.

He noted that is "roughly 1,000 rounds more per person."

"Their officers use what seems to be an exorbitant amount of ammunition," he said.

Nick Nayak, chief procurement officer for the Department of Homeland Security, did not challenge Chaffetz's numbers.

However, Nayak sought to counter what he described as several misconceptions about the bullet buys.

Despite reports that the department was trying to buy up to 1.6 billion rounds over five years, he said that is not true. He later clarified that the number is closer to 750 million.

He said the department, on average, buys roughly 100 million rounds per year.

He also said claims that the department is stockpiling ammo are "simply not true." Further, he countered claims that the purchases are helping create broader ammunition shortages in the U.S. The department has long said it needs the bullets for agents in training and on duty, and buys in bulk to save money.

While Democrats likened concerns about the purchases to conspiracy theories, Republicans raised concern about the sheer cost of the ammunition.

Entire column...
Blog author's comments - I believe this is about gun control. Until the Obama administration can pass the gun control bill they want they are making it difficult for those who own guns to find ammunition for them.

"The department has long said it needs the bullets for agents in training and on duty, and buys in bulk to save money." This is total nonsense. When has this administration given any thought about saving money? They can't spend it fast enough.

This news concerning the huge amounts of ammunition being purchased by the DHS has been all over the internet for months and it has taken our legislators this long to wake up and acknowledge it.

Sacramento Bee Runs Cartoon Making Fun of Texas Disaster

National Review Online -- Sacramento’s leading newspaper ran an editorial cartoon by its Jack Ohman making light of the recent explosion in West, Texas, that left 15 dead and at least 160 injured.
Ohman defended himself on the paper’s website, arguing that the cartoon was “published to make a point” about the dangers of Texas’s taking pride in its light regulations. Earlier this year, Texas governor Rick Perry visited California and released a radio ad trying to woo companies to his more business-friendly state, explaining its favorable tax and regulatory climate.
In response on Friday Texas Gov. Rick Perry wrote the following letter to the paper:

Re “Business is booming in Texas” (Editorial cartoon, April 25): It was with extreme disgust and disappointment I viewed your recent cartoon. While I will always welcome healthy policy debate, I won’t stand for someone mocking the tragic deaths of my fellow Texans and our fellow Americans.

Additionally, publishing this on the very day our state and nation paused to honor and mourn those who died only compounds the pain and suffering of the many Texans who lost family and friends in this disaster. The Bee owes the community of West, Texas an immediate apology for your detestable attempt at satire.

– Gov. Rick Perry, Austin, Tex.

The cartoonist and paper continue to defend their publishing of the cartoon and there has not been the slightest hint of an apology.
Blog author's comments - I wonder if it crossed the mind of the cartoonist for a moment that human beings were tragically killed in an accident? He wanted to put the blame for the explosion at the fertilizer plant on Gov. Rick Perry. Why would the editorial staff of the paper approve of this cartoon? They obviously agree.

But, what else can we expect from a liberal state like California that elects the likes of Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Waters, Waxman and Gov. Jerry Brown to represent them year after year? How can the cartoonist Ohman possibly know that Governor Perry's policies caused this tragedy? With all the different regulatory agencies involved (both Federal and State), it's going to take some time to determine exactly what caused this. It was a horrible accident. The cartoon was totally inappropriate.

Newt Gingrich Slams Obama Administration as 'Pro-Islamic'

Wall Street Journal's - Washington Wire -- ROME, Ga. — For the second day in a row, Newt Gingrich amped up his rhetoric about the Obama administration’s relationship with the Islamic world.

“There’s something sick about an administration which is so pro-Islamic that it can’t even tell the truth about the people who are trying to kill us,” Mr. Gingrich said to applause from a crowd in a small airport hangar here. Mr. Gingrich accused the White House of being unwilling to discuss threats from some Muslims. And he slammed President Barack Obama for mounting a “war” on the Catholic Church over contraception but apologize to Afghan President Hamid Karzai over the burning of Qurans.

Turning to Mr. Obama’s apology and the rising violence against American soldiers in Afghanistan, he said, “I think we can look into the mind of a president in the speed and thoroughness with which they have disowned their own people.”

Mr. Gingrich made headlines Monday when he said it was “not possible” to “fix” Afghanistan and suggested its citizens should be told to, “figure out how to live your own miserable life.”

On Tuesday, he also included Pakistan. “I would say to the Pakistanis and I would say to the Afghans – you don’t want us to be there, we sure don’t need to be there,” he said. ” You don’t want our money, we sure don’t need to send it.”
Blog author's comments - This article by the Wall Street Journal's - Washington Wire was reported in February 2012 but could have just as well been reported last week. -- Newt Gingrich is one of the few who has the gumption to tell the truth. We need more like him. Being so politically correct that we can't even name our enemies is more than stupid; it is insane if we want to survive.

I firmly believe that the USA is a nation without a leader. At least there is no one in any significant position of authority. This government cannot force us to disbelieve what many of us have believed since 9/11 happened.

McCain, Graham - Boston Bombing Should Not Slow Immigration Reform

TPM -- Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said in a statement on Friday that the Boston bombing should not be used in order to slow or halt immigration reform efforts.

“In the wake of this week’s terrorist attack in Boston, some have already suggested that the circumstances of this terrible tragedy are justification for delaying or stopping entirely the effort for comprehensive immigration reform," the statement reads. "In fact the opposite is true: Immigration reform will strengthen our nation’s security by helping us identify exactly who has entered our country and who has left – a basic function of government that our broken immigration system is incapable of accomplishing today. The status quo is unacceptable. We have 11 million people living in the shadows, which leaves this nation vulnerable to a myriad of threats. That is all the more reason why comprehensive immigration reform is so essential. By modernizing our system of legal immigration, identifying and conducting background checks on people here illegally, and finally securing our border, we will make America more secure.”
Blog author's comments - I presume the Boston Bombing had no affect on these two. We are supposed to seriously believe what McCain and Graham say? "We have 11 million people living in the shadows, which leaves this nation vulnerable to a myriad of threats." How would legalizing them reduce those threats? I am bewildered that they continue to be reelected.

Nothing would get in the way of the one party government that is sure to happen if an 'Immigration Reform' bill is passed and Obama and the Democrats give them citizenship. Eleven million more votes for the Democratic Party which is what the passage of this bill could provide. John McCain and Lindsey Graham must actually believe there will be no more worries about all the gangs, drug dealers, or terrorists hiding out here in America. Now they want to put them under the protection of the government.

Just as the gun control bills went down to defeat...if this bill which is also another of Obama's priorities comes up before the Senate prior to the 2014 election, I would hope it will also be defeated.

Baucus Warns of 'Huge Train Wreck' Enacting ObamaCare Provisions

The Hill -- Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said Wednesday he fears a "train wreck" as the Obama administration implements its signature healthcare law.

Baucus, the chairman of the chamber's powerful Finance Committee and a key architect of the healthcare reform law, said he fears people do not understand how the law will work.

"I just see a huge train wreck coming down," he told Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at a Wednesday hearing. "You and I have discussed this many times, and I don't see any results yet."

Baucus pressed Sebelius for details about how the Health Department will explain the law and raise awareness of its provisions, which are supposed to take effect in just a matter of months.

"I'm very concerned that not enough is being done so far — very concerned," Baucus said.

He pressed Sebelius to explain how her department will overcome entrenched misunderstandings about what the healthcare law does.

"Small businesses have no idea what to do, what to expect," Baucus said.

Citing anecdotal evidence from small businesses in his home state, Baucus asked Sebelius for specifics about how it is measuring public understanding of the law.

Entire column...

Blog author's comments - Many of us knew Obamacare would be a 'train wreck'. I do believe Democrat Senator Max Baucus is attempting to cover for himself. He is up for reelection in 2014.

Obamacare will ruin the best health care system ever and will be a huge expense in increased insurance premiums for those who fund their own health care. This is too little too late Mr. Baucus, you were in the middle of this debacle and went along with it knowing what would happen. This is what happens when Barack Obama has full control. If anyone wants more harm inflicted upon America… vote for the Democrats in 2014. The voters with any intelligence will help the Republican Party maintain control of the House and attempt to win the Senate with the midterm elections.

I also will never forget or forgive Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, supposedly a conservative. He had the chance to remove Obamacare from law when it was heard by the SCOTUS. Roberts had the Obamacare balloon in his hands to burst...but he gently handed it back to Obama.

Sen. Dem: After Boston Bombing, 'Get Back To Work' On Gun Bill

Washington Examiner -- Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., said that the families of Sandy Hook are grieving from a tragedy just as Bostonians are, as he called for Congress to focus on passing a gun bill.

“We’ve got to get back to work to make sure we can listen to the American people who still want us . . . to pass a background check,” Murphy said on MSNBC, per a rush transcription, after saying that there should be an “appropriate time” for grieving over the victims of the bombing at the Boston Marathon.

“Hopefully, we can get back to work [by the end of the week],” he said.

Blog author's comments - So apparently Murphy believes this is not the time to grieve about the Boston bombing victims...that should happen after a gun bill is passed? Meaning, forget the terrorism for now, let's just get back to seizing guns from Americans. Would he not grieve if one of his family or friends were involved?

So attacking the Second Amendment is more important than dead Americans. It sounds like he is upset and jealous that Massachusetts is usurping the public outpouring of sympathy that belongs to Connecticut. He doesn't want to lose the edge that the Newtown shooting "crisis" provided him and the rest of the gun grabbing liberals.

Ted Nugent Interviewed About Gun Control By Erin Burnett of CNN

The Blaze -- Sporting a graying beard and his signature camouflage hat, rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent dismissed the Senate’s gun control bill as a “feel-good measure” that won’t stop any shootings. Towards the end of his interview on CNN, Nugent recommended that Attorney General Eric Holder be arrested for gun trafficking.

“I don’t support the bill. I agree with the 90-plus percent of the law enforcement heroes out there, the real warriors of the street, that reject this as a feel-good measure ,” Nugent said bluntly. “I reject it out of hand as a feel-good measure that’s not going to accomplish anything. It won’t stop any shootings, that’s for sure.”

Nugent said he supports police enforcing the gun laws that are already on the books, rather than adding even more regulations. The Senate gun bill would expand background checks and likely include amendments from senators in both parties.

CNN’s Erin Burnett then asked Nugent about New York’s new gun legislation that allows police to confiscate firearms from people who are determined to be mentally ill. The Blaze has reported on the instance where a law-abiding gun owner’s guns were confiscated by mistake in New York.

Nugent said he simply doesn’t trust the “bureaucracy” to “accurately or responsibly or legally identify someone with mental issues.” However, the rocker did say he wants guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, but that it’s not the governments responsibility to determine who is mentally ill.

“I just don’t trust the government. I don’t trust the government that claims it’s going to reduce the budget while they increase the budget,” he added. Throwing a curve ball, Nugent then asked Burnett if she wants to reduce gun trafficking. Naturally, Burnett answered yes. “Then you would support my recommendation that we arrest Eric Holder,” Nugent said.

“Well, no, I don’t support that,” Burnett replied.

“Well, if you want to stop gun trafficking why don’t we go after the guy trafficking guns? That would be Eric Holder,” Nugent shot back, clearly referring to Operation Fast and Furious where 2,000 guns were allowed to walk across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Blog author's comments - I obviously agree with Ted Nugent. He is a gun-rights advocate and has also been quite vocal concerning how the criminal element in our society should be dealt with. I also agree with Nugent concerning 'Fast and Furious'. That was quickly swept under the carpet by the mainstream media to cover for Eric Holder and Barack Obama. The documentation was also locked up tight by Obama.

The people of America need to wake up. Many may not lack intelligence or the ability to work hard for something, but so many are so easy to fool. We are being played America. We are being worked over. If we do not stand up and do something about this soon, it will be too late to do anything. In fact our best chance at putting our country back on track toward recovery and political sanity was the election of 2012. Sadly Obama was given four more years to continue his agenda.

Judges must enforce the laws, but many are bleeding heart liberals who reduce sentencing or give probation to those who should remain in jail. There are ways to help lock up these offenders by enforcing the gun laws already on the books. If there are any new gun laws they will have the most impact on the law-abiding citizens. And no gun laws will ever stop the mentally ill. The issue of mentally ill people needs to be dealt with and they were the cause of most of the mass shootings. Gun control is 'feel-good' action pushed by the liberals. I knew that they and Obama would go after guns if he won a second term. Too bad the 16 RINO's who voted for more gun control agree with them.

Gov. Malloy: LaPierrre, NRA Supporters Like 'Clowns At The Circus'

The Hill -- Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy (D) likened National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and gun-rights advocates to "clowns at the circus," and said they were beholden to the gun industry for opposing further gun-control measures.

"Wayne reminds me of the clowns at the circus. They get the most attention, and that's what he's paid to do," said Malloy on CNN on Sunday, defending his state's newly-enacted gun laws.

"The reality is that the gun that was used to kill 26 people on December 14th was legally purchased in the state of Connecticut, even though we had an assault weapons ban. But there were loopholes in it that you could drive a truck through. this guy is so out of whack it's unbelievable," he added.

Connecticut became one of the first states in the nation to pass restrictive gun control laws last week. The new measures ban high-capacity ammunition clips, expand the kinds of guns included in the state's assault-weapons ban and include funds for schools to improve security.

Malloy also said that there is "precious little" that gun-control advocates and the NRA can agree on going forward. The pro-gun group released a report earlier this week that proposed creating a training program for teachers who want to carry guns in schools.

Federally, lawmakers are having less success in passing expanded gun-control measures, and advocates for tighter controls have expressed frustration that even a law instating universal background checks — something that polling shows a majority of Americans support — may not make it through Congress.

The Connecticut governor charged that the NRA's opposition to expanded gun-control laws is based more in the gun industry's desire to sell firearms and less in a defense of the constitutional right to bear arms.

What this is about is the ability of the gun industry to sell as many guns to as many people as possible, even if they're deranged, even if they're mentally ill, even if they have a criminal background. They don't care, they wanna sell guns," he said.
Blog author's comments - The 'restrictive gun control laws' passed in Connecticut would not have stopped the tragic shooting at the school in Newtown, Connecticut. And name calling, in this instance by Gov. Malloy, is what liberals resort to when they cannot use facts to back up their ridiculous claims. They believe they can account for everything that might go wrong in society, but that goal isn't possible. There is no way to legislate good behavior. Despite the liberal answer to the shooting, two Connecticut school districts will hire armed guards to protect the students. Armed guards... like the politicians and celebrities have.

Aside from the anti-gun people, I believe the majority of Americans want the many gun laws which are already on the books enforced rather than more restrictive laws. And stop coddling the criminals, get serious about smashing the inner city gangs, and make vast improvements in the failing mental health systems across America.

NY Mayor Critical Of NRA's Plan For School Guards

AM NY -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted the National Rifle Association Tuesday over a study that recommends putting armed guards in schools.

Every school could have armed, trained personnel, according to a study funded by the NRA and unveiled Tuesday in response to December's massacre at a Connecticut school.

The National School Shield Task Force panel also called for an adoption of a plan that would arm school staffers.

Bloomberg, who is the co-chair of the Mayor's Against Illegal Guns coalition, called the proposal one of the stupidest ideas he heard.

"There's very few times when [a gun] would ever be used, and No. 2, there's absolutely no reason to believe that they would be well-trained enough and disciplined enough to do it as well as our police officers," he said at a news conference.

Blog author's comments - Bloomberg said "There's very few times when [a gun] would ever be used, and No. 2, there's absolutely no reason to believe that they would be well-trained enough and disciplined enough to do it as well as our police officers." So...the students should hide under their desks and wait for the police to arrive?

When it comes to gun safety, gun certification and gun deployment in the civilian realm, I think I'll trust the NRA over Bloomberg who also becomes hysterical at the consumption of trans fat, salt, and large soft drinks. I agree with Wayne LaPierre the NRA executive vice president who said "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

Senators Who Voted To Give Your Second Amendment Rights To The UN

Wizbang -- Would you like to meet the Democrats that voted to destroy your Second Amendment rights? Would you like to meet those traitorous Senators that voted to give the power over your rights to the United Nations?

Fortunately, the odious, anti-American treaty was again voted down by the full Senate, but 46 Senators voted in favor of handing over our Constitutional rights to the UN.

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) offered Amendment 139 that was passed with a 53 to 46 vote. His Amendment contained language to affirm that foreign treaties would not trump the U.S. Constitution.

“Mr. President,” Inhofe said on the floor of the Senate, “I want to make sure that everyone understands what the United Nations trade treaty is. The trade treaty is a treaty that cedes our authority to have trade agreements with our allies in terms of trading arms.”

He went on to say, “I want to very briefly read this so nobody over there or over here misunderstands what this amendment does. This is right out of the amendment. Uphold the Second Amendment rights, that is one thing. And secondly, prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations arms trade treaties.”

But many Democrats simply didn’t agree with Inhofe’s insistence that the U.S. Constitution trump the UN.

Below is the list of Democrats that voted against the amendment and in favor of the UN being given the power to overturn the U.S. Constitution.

Blog author's comments - These 46 Democrat Senators voted to give our Second Amendment rights to the UN. Thankfully the 'treaty' was voted down by the full Senate. What bothers me is why would any sane American want to allow the UN to have any power at all over us?
