The Blaze -- Last week, Sen. Dianne Feinstein promised to on the first day of the new Congress introduce legislation that would ban so-called assault weapons and certain types of ammunition.
Now, the Californian senator has posted a summary of this legislation that would be introduced in 2013, showing more details about the provisions that she would hope would be included. And it doesn’t just have to do with what she calls “assault” weapons.
Here are a few bullet points on the guns that would be banned from sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing:
--120 specifically-named firearms
--Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
--Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
Those who have acquired weapons recently under the pretense of being “grandfathered” in under prior laws see mention in Feinstein’s provisions as well. It requires these weapons to be registered under the National Firearms Act that will include collecting the following information:
--Background check of owner and any transferee;
--Type and serial number of the firearm;
--Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
--Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
--Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration
In addition, Feinstein proposes banning large-capacity magazines, which for her includes those that can hold more than 10 rounds.
The proposed legislation would protect hunters and existing gun owners’ rights by:
--Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
--Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
--Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons
The legislation also proposes to strength the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and some state bans by forbidding “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons,” among other suggestions. Thumbhole stocks allow for easier more ergonomic grip of the weapon and bullet buttons release an empty magazine quickly to allow the user to pop in a new one, which some have said skirts around existing assault weapon bans.

Blog author's comments - Feinstein's bill is the Democrat's solution to shootings and crime. But, this proposed bill will only penalize the law abiding gun owners. It will not stop the criminals.
This has no doubt been ready and in her filing cabinet for quite a while. Now, after the Newtown, Connecticut shooting, they feel this is the time to attempt to pass it. With this so-called "assault weapons" ban bill they are targeting everything - rifles, shotguns and even handguns. The gun-grabbers are going for broke. If this bill passes it would be the effective end of the Second Amendment in America.
We shall see how many members of Congress vote for the proposed bill. Perhaps if Congress stops it, Obama will use an Executive Order to make it law. I knew he would go after guns but he was hesitant to do so during his first term. I don't believe what Feinstein's bill proposes is constitutional.
The bill requires all gun owners to register their guns. The Democrats would soon impose a yearly tax on each gun. The Obama administration wants more control of our lives from health care, taxes and now our Second Amendment rights.

Blog author's comments - Progressives believe there isn't a single "illegal alien" in the entire country. They are called "undocumented immigrants." Obama will find a way to give the illegals amnesty and eventually citizenship so they can of course vote for the Democratic Party.
Progressives want gun control. Barack Obama, Eric Holder and other Democrats don't just want more gun control laws; they would like to abolish our right to bear arms. The Democrats will continue to chip away at our Second Amendment rights. The gun ban Obama wants to put in place will only disarm the law abiding citizens.
The left which includes the mainstream media will continue to blame the NRA for the latest mass shooting at the Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut by a mentally disturbed person. I do not see them condemn the shooter or the fact that he should have been institutionalized nearly as much as they are focusing their sights on the NRA. Because the goal of the NRA is to protect our Second Amendment rights, the left are committed to discrediting and destroying them.

The Blaze -- Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said Thursday that all options, including confiscation and “mandatory sales to the state,” would be on the table next month when the New York State Legislature debates new gun control measures. The comments were specifically aimed at what might happen should stricter rules be imposed on “assault” weapons and high-capacity magazines.
The governor said he plans on proposing a package of gun legislation in his State of the State address on Jan. 9.
“There’s a big difference of opinion on these issues,” Gov. Cuomo said today during a radio interview with Albany’s WGDJ-AM.
Mr. Cuomo explained that because gun control hasn’t been a recent topic of discussion in the capital, he has chosen to reach out to lawmakers to see where they stand on the issue before he submits his final proposal.
Blog author's comments - I do not think Democrat Governor Cuomo will be able to confiscate guns and use "mandatory sales to the state." He and Obama are using the tragic shooting at the Newtown, Connecticut school to gather support for their anti-gun agenda.
This is not to say that Barack Obama will not push hard for a ban on 'assault rifles', high capacity magazines and the closing of what is referred to as gun show loop holes. The liberals will continue to chip away at our Second Amendment rights.
Anyone who was paying attention had to know that Obama would focus on gun control if he won a a second term in office. New York's liberal Gov. Cuomo is following along with his anti-gun agenda.
Wayne LaPierre of the National Rifle Association suggested the creation of the National School Shield Program which would put armed security officers in every school. He also said "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." I agree with Mr. LaPierre.

Blog author's comments - I have had no doubt since Barack Obama was elected president in 2008 that gun control was on his agenda. He, of course, did not touch it during his first term because he wanted to be reelected and even many Democrats did not want him attempting to remove any of the Second Amendment rights.
But since he has been given another four years in office I was certain he would do something concerning gun control. The tragedy last week at the Newtown, Connecticut school has presented him and other anti-gun Democrats with an opportunity to perhaps put many restrictions on our current rights. The Democrats never let a crisis go to waste.
Via Rasmussen Reports - Poll: By a 48% to 27% Margin Americans Think Action To Treat Mental Illness Will Do More To Stop Another Mass Shooting Than Gun Control Legislation
Americans want something done following the horrific news from Sandy Hook Elementary School last week, and a plurality believes a greater emphasis on mental health issues will be the most effective way to prevent such tragedies.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Americans believe more action to treat mental health issues will do the most to prevent incidents like last Friday’s school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. Twenty-seven percent (27%) think stricter gun control laws will do the most to prevent such shootings, while 15% put the emphasis on limits on violent movies and video games. Ten percent (10%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, (click here.)

Hot Air -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who politicized the Sandy Hook tragedy within hours last Friday, just wrapped up a press conference announcing new plans to fight gun violence and to counter the National Rifle Association with his own Super PAC.
Bloomberg was asked by a reporter to respond to Rep. Louie Gohmert’s comments over the weekend that he wished the principal of the school, who died trying to take down shooter Adam Lanza, had a gun. Bloomberg responded by saying, “There are dumb statements and then there are stupid statements...I don’t know what the gun would have done.”
Blog author's comments - That's right, there are stupid statements, and his definitely was one. Mayor Bloomberg...ask your armed body guards what the principal of the school with a gun might have done to stop the shooter and the killings.
He no doubt believes more gun laws are required which will only remove the rights of the law abiding gun owners but would not have stopped this tragedy. Anything less than a complete ban on guns is not going to satisfy some of the hard core anti-gun people.

Washington Post -- U.N. Ambassador Susan E. Rice withdrew her name as President Obama’s leading candidate for secretary of state, saying the administration could not afford a “lengthy, disruptive and costly” confirmation fight over statements she made about the extremist attack in Libya that killed four Americans.
Rice called Obama before sending him a letter officially withdrawing from consideration. Rice said in an interview that she had concluded early this week that what she and Obama considered “unfair and misleading” charges against her over the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Libya, would impede the president’s second-term agenda.
“This was my decision,” Rice said. When asked if Obama had tried to dissuade her, she said that he “understood that this was the right decision, and that I made it for the right reasons.”
Blog author's comments - What Andrea Mitchell said does not surprise me. Obama sent Susan Rice around to the Sunday talk shows with information provided by his administration, to push the story they were trying to sell and cover for his failure to do what he should have prior to and during the Benghazi terrorist attack.
Did Susan Rice know that what she said about the Benghazi attack was untrue or was she unaware of the actual facts? To say that Susan Rice withdrew herself from consideration as the next Secretary of State was because of pressure from the Republican Party and had anything to do that she is a "woman of color" is typical of a liberal. They continually play the race card.

The Blaze -- During a discussion on HuffPost Live Friday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gave a strong condemnation of what he calls the “right wing media” and particularly Fox News.
“It’s divided our country in a way that we haven’t been divided probably since the Civil War,” Kennedy said of Fox News during the discussion focused on fracking. “Its empowered large corporations to get certain kinds of politicians and ideologues who are in the United State Congress elected — the Tea Party ideologues who control the Republican Party.”
The nephew of President John F. Kennedy and son of former senator and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy made these claims against Fox while describing what he sees as the two biggest problems in American politics: the influence of big money and “the right-wing control of the American media.”
In addition to Fox News, Kennedy criticized right-wing talk radio that he describes as having a negative and large influence on whole sections of the country.
“Ninety-five percent of talk radio in our country is right-wing, and you need, according to Pew survey, and you–so a whole section of our country that that’s what they’re hearing. They wake up in the morning, when they go to bed at night,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy also claimed that Republicans “are the only ones that have their own (TV) network.”
Blog author's comments - Does Kennedy have any idea what he is talking about? I don't think so. I can understand that being a Kennedy and surrounded by fellow liberal elitists can lead to a complete misunderstanding of reality.
From the news and videos I see - ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC are the networks which have helped Obama 'divide the country' and helped the low information voters reelect Obama. But according to Kennedy the two biggest problems in American politics are the influence of big money and “the right-wing control of the American media.”
We have Barack Obama who is the worst president in our history and what he has planned for his second term will continue to damage the country. And Kennedy is attacking FOX News, the only news channel that does not always agree with Obama and the Democratic Party. Of course many on the left will believe what Kennedy said.

The attack caught America by surprise. Two waves of military planes struck, the first hitting it's projected targets just before 8am and the second hitting an hour later. A little before 10am it was over and Japanese planes headed home in the early afternoon. It was hoped by the Japanese that the attacks would extinguish any ability the Americans had to propel sea and air power in the Pacific for at least half a year. The attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 remains an American tragedy that was a catalyst for WWII.

The Blaze -- Discussing the shocking murder-suicide that rocked the NFL over the weekend, when Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend and then committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager, Costas argued that domestic disputes are more likely to end in such a fashion if the government does not limit people’s access to firearms.
Costas said: Writer Jason Whitlock, with whom I do not always agree but today said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article.
Our current gun culture, Whitlock wrote, ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.’
Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.
In the coming days, Jovan Belcher’s actions and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows? But here, wrote Jason Whitlock, is what I believe: If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.
Blog author's comments - From listening to Bob Costas over the years what he said does not surprise me. He was able to give us his opinion because it's probably also what his employer thinks. I know it's what the left believes.
The writer Costas quotes said - "If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today." Belcher was clearly irrational when he killed his girl friend and took his own life. They also had a child which Belcher was not thinking about.
There will be some people who think because Jovan Belcher played professional football and may have had concussions...that this could have contributed to what he did. I obviously don't know the answer as to why Jovan Belcher did this. But I do know it is wrong to blame our Second Amendment and pass more gun control laws.
According to the Cato Institute -- States that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons have lower crime rates than those that don't. The 31 states that have "shall issue" laws allowing private citizens to carry concealed weapons have, on average, a 24 percent lower violent crime rate, a 19 percent lower murder rate and a 39 percent lower robbery rate than states that forbid concealed weapons. In fact, the nine states with the lowest violent crime rates are all right-to-carry states. Remarkably, guns are used for self-defense more than 2 million times a year, three to five times the estimated number of violent crimes committed with guns.
