Department Of Justice Response To Records Request - Blank Pages

Government's answer to "Fast and Furious" records requests: Blank Pages

CBS News -- For more than a year, CBS News has been investigating the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms' "Fast and Furious" operation and related cases that also employed the controversial tactic of "gunwalking." With Justice Department officials refusing all interview requests to date, CBS News requested numerous public documents through the Freedom of Information Act.

So far, all of the requests that have been answered have been denied in part or in full.

This week, we received a partial response to a request made more than a year ago. It asked for communications involving "Project Gunrunner," the umbrella program for Fast and Furious, from 2010 through April 2011. Specifically, it sought any communications to which any of the following top Justice officials were a party: Attorney General Eric Holder; Lanny Breuer, Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division; Kevin Carwile, chief of the Capital Case Unit; and Deputy Assistant Attorney Generals Bruce Schwarz and Kenneth Blanco.

The response includes mostly-blank pages.

Entire column...

Blog author's comments - Should the blank pages be a surprise to CBS News? For months, congressional Republicans probing ATF's Fast and Furious "Gunwalker" scandal -- led by California Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darell Issa -- have been preparing a contempt citation against Eric Holder over Fast and Furious.

If the DOJ will not provide the House Oversight Committee the information they have requested, why would CBS News think they would receive anything?

Perhaps -- but I have serious doubts -- the Oversight Committee will expose the hypocrisy and deceit of AG Eric Holder and the Department of Justice over operation 'Fast and Furious'.

I don't believe anything will come of this investigation, Fast and Furious will eventually fade away with no damage to AG Eric Holder or President Obama.

Obama - I Told People, I'm Not Perfect

Obama says he's 'not a perfect president'

Politico -- President Obama acknowledged Monday to a major union that he hasn't been "a perfect president," but stressed that he's stuck to his promise to keep working for them.

"When I was running for this office, I told people, I'm not perfect, I'm not a perfect man -- Michelle can tell you that," he said, straying from his prepared remarks, at the AFL-CIO’s Building and Construction Trades Department Legislative Conference, before adding that he's "not a perfect president." [...]

Despite not being perfect, Obama said he's still worked with labor in mind. "I made a promise I’d always tell you where I stood, I’d always tell you what I thought, what I believed in and, most importantly, I’d wake up every single day working as hard as I know how to make your lives a little bit better," he said, drawing on lines he often uses at fundraisers, though not in official speeches.

"And for all that we’ve gone through over the last three-and-a-half, four years, I have kept that promise. And I’m still thinking about you, I’m still thinking about you, and I still believe in you. And if you join me, we’ll remind the world why it is that America is the greatest nation on Earth."

Blog author's comments - Obama says he's "not a perfect president." Oh, he thinks he’s perfect alright; he’s just taking a very awkward stab at humility for the first time since he has been the president. I might add that he has been the perfect anti-American president.

Obama Lawyer - Arizona Law Will Cause 'Foreign Relations Problems'

Obama Lawyer: Arizona Law Will Result in 'Mass Incarceration,'
Causing 'Significant Foreign Relations Problems'

CNS News -- The lawyer arguing for the Obama administration against provisions in Arizona’s controversial immigration law said Wednesday that if the U.S. Supreme Court upholds S.B. 1070 “mass incarceration” of Latinos would cause “significant foreign relations problems.”

During oral arguments before the high court on the law – which allows state police to check the immigration status of individuals stopped, detained or arrested for other reasons – Solicitor General Donald Verrilli responded to Justice Antonin Scalia’s remarks that Arizona seems to be merely enacting laws that are already federal statutes.

“Well, what I think they are going to do in Arizona is something quite extraordinary, that has significant real and practical foreign relations effects,” Verrilli said. “And that's the problem, and it's the reason why this power needs to be vested exclusively in the federal government.”

Verrilli said Arizona’s “Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act” takes that power away from the government and gives it to the state.

“And so – so, you’re going to have a situation of mass incarceration of people who are unlawfully present,” he argued. “That is going to raise – poses a very serious risk of raising significant foreign relations problems.

Justice Anthony Kennedy responded: “So you’re saying the government has a legitimate interest in not enforcing its laws?”

“No,” Verrilli replied. “We have a legitimate interest in enforcing the law, of course, but it needs to be – but these – this court has said over and over again, has recognized that the balance of interest that has to be achieved in enforcing the immigration laws is exceedingly delicate and complex, and it involves consideration of foreign relations, it involves humanitarian concerns...[...]

“It seems to me that the federal government just doesn’t want to know who’s here illegally,” commented Chief Justice John Roberts.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law two years ago. Several groups, including the Department of Justice, challenged the law in court.

Only eight justices will decide the case since Justice Elena Kagan recused herself because of her work on immigration during her tenure as Solicitor General.

The court is expected to rule on the case by the end of its current term this summer. Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Indiana and Utah have proposed or enacted similar legislation.

Blog author's comments - The lawyer arguing for the Obama administration against Arizona’s immigration law said that if the U.S. Supreme Court upholds S.B. 1070 “mass incarceration” of Latinos would cause “significant foreign relations problems.” - If a crime is committed, then incarcerate them.

What does “foreign relations problems” have to do with illegals breaking our immigration laws? If the federal government will not enforce the laws then the state should be able to administer the laws and protect its citizens. It appears that the elected officials in Arizona take this seriously unlike most of the Democrats in the federal government.

Obama wants illegals here because to him they are potential Democratic Party voters. Hopefully Arizona wins this one and can begin to gain control of the illegals.

DNC Chief - "Republicans Have Fully Embraced Extremism"

Wasserman Schultz: 'Very likely' for GOP to lose House, blames tea party

Daily Caller -- Predictions of victory are taboo in sports because they wind up as bulletin board material to motivate the opposition. But that isn’t stopping Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz from making grand projections about her party’s electoral success come November.

On Tuesday’s “Starting Point” on CNN, Wasserman Schultz stopped short of Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod’s outright declaration that President Barack Obama would win re-election by saying it was “entirely reasonable” to believe that Democrats would recapture the U.S. House.

“I think it’s entirely reasonable for [House Speaker John Boehner] to expect that they could lose the House because they very well could,” she said. “We’re working hard to make sure that happens because John Boehner has allowed the tea party to take over his conference.”[...]

“The Republicans have fully embraced extremism and they have brought in two years almost no jobs legislation to this floor and not worked with the president on any legislation to help make sure that we can move the economy forward because their number one goal is political and that’s to defeat Barack Obama,” she said.
Entire column...

Blog author's comments - Extremism has been overplayed by the Democrats the same as the race card. I would like to know how many times Wasserman Schultz has accused the GOP of 'extremism.' Perhaps Debbie Wasserman Schultz will join the unemployed in a few months.

The liberals say the GOP has had two years and refuse to work with Obama. That is what many wanted when they voted for the Republicans in 2010. They wanted them to stop him.

The strategy here is, if the Democrats can make enough groundless accusations of extremism, etc. about the GOP, then the truth about what the Democrats have been doing and are doing to our country will be lost in the confusion.

Obama - Refuses To Support Israel

State Dept. Refuses To Support Israeli Participation In Nato Summit

Washington Free Beacon -- A State Department spokesperson refused to signal U.S. support for Israeli participation in an upcoming NATO summit in Chicago next month.

Turkey raised eyebrows this week when it rejected Israeli participation in the summit.

Israel is a partner country working with NATO on an ad hoc basis, but is not a full member of the treaty organization. Turkey, however, is a full member of NATO, and President Obama has formed a close relationship with Turkish Leader Tayyip Erdogan, whose critics accuse him of imposing an Islamist agenda.

Given repeated opportunities to support Israeli participation in the summit, State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland demurred.

The reporter questioning Nuland even went so far as to warn her that her unclear response would be seized upon and “slammed” by the pro-Israel community, which has had a tense relationship with the administration.
Entire column...

Blog author's comments - The time has come to expel Turkey from NATO. This November is also the time to remove President Obama from the White House. He again refuses to support Israel. Why does this not surprise me?

Keystone - Has Support Of Dems In House

House clears highway bill with Keystone
pipeline mandate, thwarts Obama

E2 Wire -- Defying a White House veto threat, the House on Wednesday passed legislation that extends transportation program funding through September and mandates construction of a controversial oil pipeline from Canada to the Gulf Coast.

All but 14 Republicans, with support from 69 Democrats, voted 293-127 for legislation that falls far short of Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) earlier plan to move a sweeping five-year, $260 billion package.

But Boehner’s retreat serves two crucial tactical and political purposes for the Speaker. It sets up talks with the Senate on the highway bill and keeps the Keystone pipeline — a centerpiece of GOP attacks on White House energy policy — front and center ahead of the November election.

Republican leaders hailed the bipartisan vote as a rebuke of President Obama. Two senior Democrat leaders, Reps. James Clyburn (S.C.) and John Larson (Conn.), approved the measure.

“The House is on record again in support of the Keystone XL energy pipeline — a project President Obama blocked, personally lobbied against, then tried to take credit for, and now says he’ll veto,” Boehner said in a statement. “There’s no telling where the president stands from one day to the next on Keystone, but he knows the pipeline has broad and bipartisan support in Congress and among the American people.”[...]

Obama, facing divisions in his political base, has delayed a permitting decision on the project until after the election and threatened to veto the House bill over the pipeline language.
Entire column...

Blog author's comments - The Keystone pipeline is a winner for America. We would have a stable source of oil from Canada plus it would create many jobs and help the economy. Of course Obama only backs 'green' energy projects and many of us know how well most of those have turned out.

I do believe the Democrats who backed the bill in the House are worried about their jobs because of the upcoming election.

With the instability in the Middle East the pipeline from Canada is a must. We should also be drilling for our own oil, but this will not happen while President Obama is in the White House. This is yet another of the many reasons to make him a private citizen in November.

If this bill makes it to Obama's desk it will be interesting to see if he will veto it.

Al Sharpton - In Debt To The Government

More Money, More Problems

Free Beacon -- MSNBC’s Al Sharpton is reeling in debt and back taxes.

The liberal provocateur owes nearly $1 million to creditors and the federal government as a result of his failed bid for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination.

His campaign’s unpaid bills exceed $888,000, according to federal filings.

It is unclear why Sharpton has not paid his creditors. He does not lack for income.

Sharpton has his own primetime talk show on liberal network MSNBC, a platform he used to drive the Trayvon Martin shooting story that rocked the nation and led to the arrest of Democratic neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman.

In August 2011, Sharpton took over the 6 p.m. slot from Keith Olbermann, who earned more than $4 million per year working in the same slot at the network. Sharpton also drew a $240,000 salary from his nonprofit group, National Action Network, in 2011 even as the group racked up nearly $1 million in unpaid federal payroll taxes, interest, and penalties.

NAN has dealt with major finance issues in the last few years. The nonprofit raised $3 million in 2010, and paid off its state back taxes in 2011, but still owed $883,000 in unpaid federal payroll taxes in December. The group also owed more than $200,000 in loans to one of Sharpton’s for-profit enterprises.

Sharpton, who has endorsed President Barack Obama’s calls for taxing the rich, has his own tax issues. He owed the IRS $2.6 million in income taxes in December 2011, as well as almost $900,000 in New York state taxes.
Entire column...

Blog author's comments - Not to worry as the most “transparent” White House ever, I am sure they are on top of this. Does anybody think that Sharpton will hear from the IRS asking for payment of any taxes he owes?

“It is unclear why Sharpton has not paid his creditors. He does not lack for income.” What is unclear? The government is not going to do anything to Al Sharpton and he knows it.

Sharpton is a 'tool' and 'race hustler' for the Obama regime that is attempting to win a second term so Obama can continue with his destruction of America.

AG Holder - Voter Fraud Is Not A Problem

73% Think Photo ID Requirement Before
Voting Does Not Discriminate

Rasmussen Reports -- Despite his insistence that voter fraud is not a serious problem, Attorney General Eric Holder was embarrassed last week when a video surfaced of someone illegally obtaining a ballot to vote under Holder’s name in his home precinct in Washington, D.C. Most voters consider voter fraud a problem in America today and continue to overwhelmingly support laws requiring people to show photo identification before being allowed to vote.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 64% of Likely U.S. Voters rate voter fraud at least a somewhat serious problem in the United States today, and just 24% disagree. This includes 35% who consider it a Very Serious problem and seven percent (7%) who view it as Not At All Serious. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on April 12-13, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Blog author's comments - Let me get this straight...it is okay to ID people when they buy liquor, guns, cigarettes, when they apply for a passport, are admitted to a hospital and to board an airplane, but for voting Eric Holder does not believe it should be required. He does not think voter fraud is a serious problem.

The will of 73% of the people is of no concern to the Obama regime. Eric Holder feels that a voter photo ID law is discriminatory. A voter photo ID law would assist in stopping those who are not eligible to vote. It would help to prevent voter fraud. What is wrong with that Mr. Holder?

I believe this is the video that 'embarrassed'
AG Eric Holder that Rasmussen is referring to.

Obama - To Push For Immigration Reform

Obama pledges to pursue
immigration reform in second term

The Hill -- Obama vowed in an interview with Univision to pursue comprehensive immigration reform and attacked Romney and GOP lawmakers, saying they would oppose his efforts.

President Obama promised to pursue immigration reform in his second term, but said Republicans in Congress may keep him from succeeding.

“I can promise that I will try to do it in the first year of my second term,” Obama said in an interview with Univision set to air on Sunday. “I want to try this year. The challenge we've got on immigration reform is very simple. I've got a majority of Democrats who are prepared to vote for it, and I've got no Republicans who are prepared to vote for it.”

The president also took a shot at Mitt Romney, his likely Republican opponent in the fall, for supporting Arizona’s controversial anti-illegal immigration law.

Blog author's comments - I can imagine the many things Obama will try to do if he wins a second term with no worry about reelection.

Obama views illegals as future Democratic Party voters. This is only one of many reasons why he has to be stopped in November. This is a must win election for the Republican Party and for the future of America.

Obama said, “I’ve got no Republicans who are prepared to vote for it (immigration reform)." Of course not, there would be a guaranteed influx of millions of lifetime handouts to lifetime liberal voters.

Liberal Talk Show Host - Out Of Control

Liberal Talk Show Host Thom Hartmann: Trayvon
Killed by Koch Brothers, NRA, and Wal-Mart

News Busters -- Liberal radio host Thom Hartmann came unglued over Trayvon Martin on Wednesday, blaming his death on...the Koch brothers.[...]

"The so called stand your ground and shoot first laws, brought to you by the NRA and Wal-Mart, peddled to state legislators, Republican state legislators, by the American Legislative Exchange Council, ALEC, funded by the Koch brothers. That’s pretty amazing, when you see a fairly direct line from right-wing billionaires funding front groups that are actually writing our nation’s laws to a dead kid in Florida."
Entire Column...

Blog author's comments - Mr. Hartman has a serious reality issue. George Zimmerman has been arrested and charged with second degree murder for the death of Trayvon Martin.

Would Thom Hartman, Al Sharpton and all liberals be pleased if there are race riots because of the Martin shooting? The liberals won't let this go. They will continue to pour gasoline on the fire when they should allow this case to be decided in the court room.

America's Debt - Out Of Control

America's Debt Is Greater than Entire
Eurozone's (and U.K's) Combined Debt

Weekly Standard -- As the chart shows, America's debt is currently $15.1 trillion, while the Eurozone (which includes France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, the U.K., and others) has a combined debt of $12.7 trillion. (All dollar amounts are in U.S. dollars, and the data refers to closing 2011 numbers.)

The Eurozone is larger than the United States, so America's debt per capita also exceeds the Eurozone's. According to the Census Bureau the U.S. has a population of 313 million, whereas the Eurozone has a population in excess of 331 million.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney frequently warns that the United States should not become like Greece. "We need to rein in government and unleash the extraordinary vitality and creativity of the American people," Romney wrote in a December op-ed. "We must not wait to suffer a crisis like Greece's or Portugal's to right the ship of state."

But with charts like this, that formulation might already be out of date, considering the enormity of America's debt burden.

Blog author's comments - And many of us thought Barack Obama wasn’t good at anything. I would think that most of us should be alarmed by this, but how many Americans are not, are not aware, or just do not care? Will they put Obama in office for another term?

Prosecutor - Trayvon Martin Case, No Grand Jury

Special prosecutor: Won't take Trayvon Martin
death to grand jury, still investigating

Orlando Fla. (AP) -- Special prosecutor Angela Corey said Monday she will not take the Trayvon Martin shooting death before a grand jury.

Corey said she continues to investigate the case and will not involve a grand jury that had been set to meet Tuesday in Sanford, Fla.

Corey said her decision to skip the grand jury shouldn’t be considered a factor in determining whether charges will be filed against George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who has admitted to fatally shooting the unarmed Martin.

The announcement means the decision on charges now rests solely with Corey, who had a reputation for not presenting cases before grand juries if it wasn’t required. Under Florida law, only first-degree murder cases require the use of grand juries.

Corey took over the case last month after the prosecutor who normally handles cases out of Sanford recused himself. That prosecutor, Norm Wolfinger, had originally called for the case to be presented before a grand jury.

Blog author's comments - It is difficult to believe the special prosecutor would put herself solely in charge to exonerate George Zimmerman -- and incur the wrath of the people who are calling for his head.

Perhaps prosecutor Angela Corey does not believe a grand jury would indict Zimmerman based upon the evidence and she wants him charged with something so the case will go to trial.

Obama - Still Blaming Bush For Our Problems

Obama says 2012 will be a "fun debate"

Washington (AP) -- President Barack Obama said Thursday that the 2012 election will be a "fun debate" over two competing visions for the nation, referring to Mitt Romney as the Republican "front-runner" who has backed policies that would undermine middle-class families.

At a fundraiser held at a Washington hotel, Obama told supporters that his administration had spent the past three years "cleaning up after some of that mess, and I don't want to have to do it again."He warned that a budget plan pushed by House Republicans would hurt early childhood education, veterans and road and bridge projects crucial to the nation's economic recovery.[...]

Kirsten Kukowski, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said in response that Obama was "still pointing fingers instead of talking about his accomplishments. The president who was all about hope and change has now resorted to distortion and fear."

Obama revisited many of the same arguments he made earlier in the week during a speech to newspaper executives, in which he framed the election as a choice between his work to use government to help people prosper and Republicans who would let average Americans struggle while pushing policies that help the wealthy few.

"It's going to be a big debate, and it's going to be a fun debate. Because it's always good to have the truth on your side," Obama said.
Entire column...

Blog author's comments - Obama refuses to take any responsibility for the destruction he has done in less than four years. He continues to blame the Bush administration for almost all that is wrong with the country.

Most of the problems we now have are the result of Obama's policies and agenda. If Obama is in office another term the damage inflicted upon America may never be repaired.

It is amusing to read that he says he has the truth on his side. Obama also said the GOP budget plan would hurt the nation's economic recovery. The economy will begin to recover when Obama moves out of the White House.

Pelosi - Predicts Win For Obamacare

Pelosi Predicts A Supreme Court Win For ObamaCare

BuzzFeed Politics -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi predicted a six-to-three Supreme Court verdict upholding her, and President Obama's, health care overhaul.

"I'm predicting six-to-three in favor," she said yesterday at a private event at the Paley Center for Media in New York. "I have confidence that if we're talking about the law of the land and our compliance with it, that we will be OK."

President Obama also predicted confidently — and to the anger of some conservatives —that the court would have no choice but to uphold the legislation.[...]

"Right now there are over 80 million people who are benefitting from the bill," she said. "We can't roll that back, so we have to find a way to keep it."

"I think it will be upheld," she said. "But we really do have to find a way to keep what is in the bill and what is coming." Entire column...

Blog author's comments - In 2010 - the mid-term elections; Pelosi predicted the Democrats would hold control of the House. Hopefully she is also wrong concerning Obamacare.

If the Supreme Court votes on the constitutionality of the Obamacare law and individual mandate, it should be struck down. Of course many of us know that four Justices do not believe in the Constitution.

The way Obama is lobbying the Supreme Court, I have to wonder if he was tipped as to how the court is leaning. I could even hazard a guess as to who tipped him.

It won't be long before the liberal grade school teachers will have the little kids writing letters to the Supreme Court Justices pleading for them to keep Obamacare as it now is.

For those who are concerned about what has happened to the country during Obama's first term, stop and think what will happen if he receives a second term and has the chance to appoint two more Supreme Court Justices. Keep this in mind when you go to the polls in November.

Biden - On Florida's Stand Your Ground Law

Biden: Trayvon Martin shooting
should prompt debate over gun laws

Examiner.com -- On Sunday, Vice President Joe Biden told CBS' Face the Nation the Trayvon Martin shooting should spark debate on gun laws - particularly Florida's Stand Your Ground law.

“It’s important that people be put in a position where their Second Amendment rights are protected, but that they also don’t, as a consequence of the laws, unintendedly put themselves in harm’s way,” he said Sunday.

Biden, who once served as the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he does not believe that citizens carrying concealed weapons keeps them safer from criminals.

“The idea that there’s this overwhelming additional security in the ownership and carrying concealed and deadly weapons…I think it’s the premise, not the constitutional right, but the premise that it makes people safer is one that I’m not so sure of,” he said.
Blog author's comments - Here we go again... another try by the Democrats to push their anti-gun agenda. 'Fast and Furious' didn’t work so now they will distort this case. After Biden's comments I would have to guess that gun sales have increased sharply.

American citizens have the right to protect themselves. The VP is just proving to America what we already know; there is no way the Obama regime can be allowed another four years. With the crime problems of today, guns are needed more than ever.

'Stand your ground' laws not just GOP policy, records show

Despite liberal protesters’ claims that Florida’s so-called “stand your ground” gun law demonstrates that Republican policymakers are responsible for the February death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, an analysis of its legislative history shows that it was a bipartisan effort — and that no Florida Democratic state senator voted against it.
