Gov. Daniels - Obama Wanted High Gas Prices

Governor Mitch Daniels: "Let's Give the President Credit for One Domestic Policy That Worked - He Wanted Higher Gas Prices and He Got Them"

Blog author's comments - There are a few republicans willing to speak up. The high gas prices should surprise no one. What are we going to do about it?

The Keystone pipeline from Canada cancellation was Obama catering to far-left environmentalists. Even the unions favored building the pipeline, since it would have created thousands of jobs.

Obama is trying to deflect wide spread anger for him, but rising gas prices are the only way to get him to his dream of an alternative energy America, which may happen one day, but in the distant future.

The November 6, 2012 election may be the most important election in the history of the US. If Obama wins a second term America may never recover from the damage he will do.

Tim Geithner - Rich Need Higher Taxes

Geithner: 'Privilege of Being an American'
Is Why Rich Need Higher Taxes

Weekly Standard -- Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, speaking on CNBC:

"That’s the kind of balance you need," said Geithner. "Why is that the case? Because if you don't try to generate more revenues through tax reform, if you don't ask, you know, the most fortunate Americans to bear a slightly larger burden of the privilege of being an American, then you have to -- the only way to achieve fiscal sustainability is through unacceptably deep cuts in benefits for middle class seniors, or unacceptably deep cuts in national security."
Blog author's comments - According to the Obama regime - for wealthy conservatives it is a privilege to be American - for illegals it is a right.

Does this mean that the 47% who pay no federal income tax are no longer considered Americans?

Geithner should consider himself privileged for being appointed to the job of Treasury Secretary - it was discovered that he had not paid all of his taxes for a few years.

Obama Goes On Offensive - Gas Prices Climb

Obama goes on offensive as gasoline prices soar

AFP -- US President Barack Obama tried to head off Republican criticism over rising gasoline prices Thursday, ridiculing their responses as bumper-sticker policies designed to win an election, not to solve the problem.

Visiting the hard-hit election battleground of Florida, Obama responded to a barrage of Republican criticism that has accompanied a 13 percent increase in gasoline prices over the last year.

Accusing Republicans of trying to profit from higher prices at the pump, Obama lamented: "Some politicians always see this as a political opportunity. Only in politics do people greet bad news so enthusiastically."

"Since it's an election year, they're already dusting off their three-point plans for two dollar gas. I'll save you the suspense: Step one is drill, step two is drill, and step three is keep drilling," he said.

"Well the American people aren't stupid. You know that's not a plan -- especially since we're already drilling. It's a bumper sticker. It's not a strategy to solve our energy challenge."

Average prices currently stand at $3.61 a gallon, but the American Automobile Association has predicted they could reach $4.25 a gallon by May.

Sensing weakness, Republican presidential candidates have seized on rising prices as evidence that Obama's energy policies have failed.

White House hopefuls Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich point to Obama's opposition to both offshore drilling and the construction of a pipeline from Canada, and oil company tax breaks, as contributing to higher gas prices.

Republicans also point to the bankruptcy of solar panel firm Solyndra after it received $535 million in government loan guarantees as evidence that Obama has failed.

On Thursday, Obama was at pains to empathize with struggling consumers, while arguing that the president has little direct control over prices.

"Just like last year, the biggest thing that's causing the price of oil to rise right now is instability in the Middle East -- this time in Iran," he said.

In response, Gingrich accused Obama of making excuses. "Instead of offering a real plan to lower the cost of gasoline, President Obama offered excuses and fantasies," Gingrich said in a statement.

"Blaming instability in the Middle East for high gas prices is not leadership. Neither is promising magic future technologies that won't satisfy today's energy needs." Entire column...

Blog author's comments - The Democrats have been saying since the Carter administration that domestic production won’t solve immediate problems. That it would take 5-10 years. That was many years ago and we are now more dependent on dictators and tyrants for our oil than ever before.

The reason we have higher gas prices today is because the Democrats have done everything they can to make it impossible to drill in America.

If the government would have allowed construction of new refineries and more drilling for our own oil, we would not be as dependent on other countries for so much oil.

The Keystone pipeline from Canada which Obama did not allow would have been a secure supplier for some of the oil the US needs.

Newt Gingrich - Obama a Dangerous President

Newt Gingrich: Defeating Obama 'Most Dangerous
President in US History' a 'Duty of National Security'

In his opening speech to students at a townhall event held on the Oral Roberts University campus former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich discussed the importance of defeating President Obama.

"We are really at risk someday in your life time of losing an American city…defeating Barack Obama becomes a duty of national security.”

Blog author's comments - Gingrich is correct. If Obama is re-elected we will lose more freedoms, besides being very vulnerable to future attacks due to weakened security. He will continue the destruction of America.

Michelle Obama - Another Vacation

Michelle's ski trip marks 16 Obama vacations

Washington Examiner -- First lady Michelle Obama’s weekend jaunt to Aspen, Colorado for a President’s Day ski holiday with her daughters Sasha and Malia makes the 16th time members of the first family have gone on extended vacations during their three years in office.

Their stay at the home of a major Chicago fundraiser for President Obama makes the fifth time the first lady and her daughters have taken a break from Washington on their own. Only once has Obama had a long weekend out of town and alone, celebrating his 49th birthday in Chicago in August 2010.

Accounting for trips out of Washington for several days, the total number of vacations Washington Secrets tabulated is 16, 10 where the family was together, such as for Christmas and summer vacations, one by the president and five by the first lady. Not included were Camp David visits or trips like the first family’s New York City date night in May, 2009.

Critics and even some in Obama's own party say the vacations present a bad image at a time when many Americans are struggling to get by during the recession.

Blog author's comments - I don't think Michelle Obama likes living in the White House. Hopefully she and her entire family can move out after the 2012 election.

What is her job again? What office does she hold that puts so much stress on her that she needs all this rest and relaxation?

Waters Says - Wall Street Bankers Fear Her

Maxine Waters: Banks 'shaking in their boots'
at thought of me as chairwoman

The Hill -- Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said banks on Wall Street are "shaking in their boots" at the prospect of her becoming chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee.

Waters is next in line to take over as top Democrat on the panel following the retirement of Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) at the end of 2012. She told California Democrats gathered for a convention last weekend that she was eager to take over at the top, urging them to help Democrats reclaim control of the House in the upcoming election.

"Let me let you in on a secret. I am the senior-most person serving on the Financial Services Committee," she said. "Barney Frank is about to retire and guess who’s shaking in their boots? The too-big-to-fail banks and financial institutions and all of Wall Street, because Maxine Waters is going to be the next chair of the Financial Services Committee!"

Waters is angling to take over for Democrats on the committee monitoring Wall Street in 2013, which will lead the effort to defend the Dodd-Frank financial reform law from GOP attempts to roll it back. So far, no direct challenger from her party has emerged.

The most apparent obstacle to her becoming the top Democrat is a pending ethics investigation against her. The House Ethics Committee has hired outside counsel to examine its initial handling of allegations against her and whether she violated House ethics rules.

The committee is examining whether Waters improperly directed federal funding to a bank in which her husband owned stock and previously served as a board member. Waters has strongly defended her innocence, and the committee suspended the investigation last year to bring on outside counsel.

Blog author's comments - It boggles the mind to think that Maxine Waters could rise to such a position. Ms. Waters, the only ones who should be shaking in their boots are the American people. Appointing her would help to guarantee that the recovery America needs would be postponed indefinitely.

If the Democrats regain a majority in the House our country is in very serious trouble. Waters running the financial services committee would be a disaster. Maxine Waters is a good example of how in Washington seniority overrides capabilities.

The United States House Committee on Financial Services (also referred to as the House Banking Committee) is the committee of the United States House of Representatives that oversees the entire financial services industry, including the securities, insurance, banking, and housing industries. It is chaired by Spencer Bachus (R-AL) and the ranking Democrat is currently Barney Frank (D-MA).

Many Deceased - Still Registered To Vote

Report: 1.8M dead registered to vote

Politico -- The United States’ voter registration system is in chaos — about 24 million registrations are no longer valid and nearly 2 million dead people are still on voter rolls, according to a new report Tuesday.

Along with the one of every eight voter registrations that is not valid or has significant inaccuracies, there are 2.75 million people currently registered to vote in more than one state, the Pew Center on the States study found.

And the millions of problematic registrations aren’t the only issue — researchers estimate at least 51 million eligible U.S. citizens aren’t registered to vote. That’s nearly one in four, or 24 percent of the eligible population.

Additionally, about 12 million records have incorrect addresses, meaning it’s unlikely any mailings can reach these voters, the research in the report shows.

There also are more than 1.8 million deceased people who still have active registration on voter rolls, Pew found. And,... the outdated, inefficient systems currently in place are “not designed to keep up with deaths as they occur.” Keep reading...

Blog author's comments - This is why we need voter identification laws that are much more strict than they are now.

You can bet that there will be more than one state that ends up needing recounts in selected precincts after the 2012 election.

What are the percentages of the dead that are registered for Democrats vs. Republicans? This would be interesting to know. It seems to me it’s a very important part of the overall story.

Chicago Mayor Wants Tax On Gun Owners

Rahm Emanuel proposes $65 per-gun fee and registry

Sun Times -- Illinois handgun owners would be required to register their weapons with the state — and pay a $65-per-gun registration fee — under a mayoral plan proposed Thursday to arm police with the information they need to solve crimes and reduce illegal firearm transfers.

Even as he picked up the gun control mantle from former Mayor Richard M. Daley, Mayor Rahm Emanuel acknowledged that he’s facing an uphill battle.

It comes at a time when the National Rifle Association and its allies among Downstate lawmakers are making a major push for concealed carry legislation. Illinois is the only state in the nation that does not allow its residents to carry concealed weapons.

But Emanuel, who helped pass the Brady Bill during his days in the Clinton White House, said he’s willing to wage the tough fight if that’s what it takes to make Chicago streets safer.

His proposal would require all handgun owners to obtain a certificate of registration from the State Police for every handgun they own — at a cost of $65-per-weapon — and to renew that registration every five years.

They would be required to provide: their name, address and telephone number; the manufacturer of the gun, its model type and serial number; and the date and source of the purchase.

Whenever a handgun is sold, the seller would be required to report the sale to the State Police “no less than 48 hours prior to delivery.” Handgun buyers would have 20 days to file for a new certificate of registration. Anyone caught carrying or possessing an unregistered handgun would face a Class 2 felony.

Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, said Emanuel’s proposal to impose a per-handgun registration fee is “preposterous,” illegal and going nowhere in the General Assembly.

“It’s a civil right [to own a gun]. You don’t have to pay for a civil right. It’s like a poll tax,” he said.

“He’s trying to limit handguns for criminals and he’s attacking law abiding citizens. There are 1.4 million firearms owners in this state and he wants to tax them all $65. It’s crazy.” Continue reading...

Blog author's comments - So, a photo ID requirement to vote is "unconstitutional" but the gun owner requirements and gun owner tax which Emanuel wants are?

If Obama wins a second term he and Holder will go way beyond what Emanuel is attempting. They will also remove all concealed carry permits from those who have taken classes, passed an extensive background check, have been finger printed etc.

The liberals continue to ignore the Constitution. Article II... the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Emanuel's proposal will not stop the criminals from buying and carrying a gun illegally. It would only punish the law abiding citizens who own legal guns.

Obama Rejects Keystone - Harper Goes To China

Canada's Harper talks oil with China as U.S. faces $4 gas

Washington Examiner -- Just as he promised he would do if the United States rejected the Keystone XL pipeline, Prime Minister Stephen Harper headed to Beijing earlier this week on a four-day trade mission in which he is expected to seek a deal to sell millions of barrels of Canadian oil to China. Since China is aggressively pursuing energy deals around the world to support its economic expansion, expect Harper to come home with an official signature on the dotted line.

Harper is accompanied on the mission by dozens of Canadian business executives, including several from Syncrude, the consortium that produces thousands of barrels of oil daily from the Athabasca oil sands. That's the place the Keystone XL pipeline -- proposed by TransCanada, another north-of-the-border energy giant -- would have funneled 700,000 barrels per day to the United States, if not for Obama's rejection. Some portion of the estimated 20,000 new jobs that would have been created here will also be exported to China.

The nationwide average price of regular gas was $3.37 per gallon last month, compared with $2.71 in January 2010 -- a 24 percent increase. And things are going to get tougher for gasoline buyers because prices traditionally rise in February and March as spring approaches. That's when refiners must switch over to more expensive federally mandated formulas that result in slightly lower emissions. According to USA Today, energy experts expect prices to be in the $4-per-gallon range this summer. Keep reading...

Blog author's comments - What is Prime Minister Harper supposed to do, wait for us to get our act together? Time is ticking but the Obama regime will not budge. Also, with the problems in the Middle-East a deal with Canada makes perfect sense... but, not to Obama.

U.S. - We need another year or two to think about it and spend more money on environmental impact studies before we reject it for political reasons.

China to Harper - The paperwork is already filled out and just awaits the final negotiating points and signatures; we should be able to knock it out in a couple of days.

The Obama administration believes there is no reason why we can't have both economic recovery and industry crushing regulations.

If we can dump the current resident of the White House in 2012 we should still be able to purchase oil from Canada. We should also be drilling for our own oil.

Mark Levin On Barack Obama

Mark Levin Hammers Obama on Hannity Show

This isn’t about women. It’s not about contraception. This is about a president of the United States who has no respect for the Constitution, no respect for the First Amendment, and also has no respect for people of faith – and I’m not trying to be controversial, but there’s no balancing involved here.

I didn’t know we were having a problem getting contraceptives in this country. I mean they fund Planned Parenthood who hands out this stuff like candy. So there’s really no problem in this country with access. What he’s trying to do is break down that line between church and state in reverse and it’s contemptible!

Blog author's comments - With Obama it's all about power. As long as he is President he will continue to push his policies and agenda in an attempt to change our country into what he wants it to be.

I don't want to think about what he will do if he manages to win a second term with no worries about re-election. He has got to be removed from the White House this year or the United States may never recover from the devastation he has planned for us.

As for Levin praising Santorum... he is not my first choice to win the GOP nomination. I don't have confidence that he can defeat Obama and that of course should be the main purpose of the 2012 election for the Republican Party.

The U.S. Constitution is being stepped on every day as long as Obama is the president. Yet, the majority of polls show Obama beats every Republican candidate. Are they polling only liberals or is this the new America? No, we cannot afford four more years of Obama.

Obama And Holder Want To Ban Guns

Holder tells Congress the Obama
administration wants to ban guns

Daily Caller -- Last Thursday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to answer questions about his role in the deadly “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal. However, instead of answers, Congress got more defiance, more arrogance, and more wasted time with an attorney general who clearly feels no sense of obligation to the American people or our rule of law.

But for all the stonewalling, there was at least one telling moment at this hearing, and it should concern law-abiding gun owners and all Americans who expect accountability from our government.

In a rash attempt to deflect attention away from himself and his own irresponsibility, Holder let Congress know that the Obama administration is still working toward the day when it can reinstate former President Bill Clinton’s so-called “assault weapons” ban. According to Holder:

This administration has consistently favored the reinstitution of the assault weapons ban. It is something that we think was useful in the past with regard to the reduction that we’ve seen in crime, and certainly would have a positive impact on our relationship and the crime situation in Mexico.

It’s difficult to follow Holder’s logic here, but it goes something like this...

The Obama administration — particularly Eric Holder’s Justice Department — oversaw an epic scandal whereby our own federal government illegally funneled thousands of firearms into the hands of Mexican drug lords. This contributed to the death of one U.S. Border Patrol agent and hundreds of Mexicans. Keep reading...

Blog author's comments - by Wayne LaPierre, NRA Executive Vice President

Obama’s Secret War On Second Amendment Freedom

Obama won’t admit his anti-gun agenda, but his record speaks for itself. Within a week of his election to the White House in 2008, Obama’s “transition team” posted several elements of his gun-ban agenda on the Internet—at change.gov—but then abruptly deleted the web page.

Since then, whenever the Obama administration has dropped its guard and revealed its true intent to ban firearms, it has quickly backed down to restore a facade of sanity.

For example, in 2009, less than a month after he was confirmed as attorney general, Eric Holder admitted that his boss wanted to ban your semi-automatic firearms. Then he quickly backed off.

In 2010, top officials at the Environmental Protection Agency told anti-hunting activists the agency had the power to impose a ban on your lead ammunition. Then they quickly backed off.

In 2011, the Department of Interior announced that it was considering bans to stop you from target shooting on public lands. Then it quickly backed off.

The motive behind this madness is clear. Obama and company are engaged in a conspiracy of public deception intended to:

1. Lull gun owners into a false sense of security to decimate the ranks of groups like the NRA and neutralize gun owners as a political force in elections and, thereby;

2. Win re-election to a second term in the White House, at which point they will be immune from elections and free to consolidate and misuse their ever-increasing power to;

3. Excise the Second Amendment from our Bill of Rights forever through legislation, litigation, regulation, executive orders, judicial fiat, international treaties and every lever of unchecked power that they can wrest from all three branches of government.

And the key to their success lies in keeping gun owners like you in the dark.

Make no mistake: Barack Obama has spent his entire political career engaged in a stealthy assault on your Right to Keep and Bear Arms:

• 1996: Obama endorsed a total ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of all handguns.
• 1998: Obama endorsed a ban on the sale or transfer of all semi-automatic firearms.
• 1999: Obama supported a 500 percent increase in federal taxes on ammunition.
• 2003: Obama voted to ban single-shot, over-under and side-by-side shotguns.
• 2004: Obama said the right to carry should be banned nationwide.

Obama even said you shouldn’t be allowed to have a gun in your home for self-defense!

It’s true: Before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Washington, D.C.’s ban on firearms in the home for self-defense, Obama had the gall to say that the ban was constitutional.

Worse yet, when the Illinois legislature voted on a bill that would exempt residents from prosecution for violating a local handgun ban if they used their handguns for self-defense in their own homes, Obama voted against the bill!

Once in the White House, Obama filled his cabinet with the most rabid anti-gun and radical anti-hunting extremists ever seen in Washington.

GOP Pushing Keystone Pipeline

Republicans Prepare For Next Round
in Keystone Pipeline Fight

Fox News -- Republicans are gearing up for another showdown over the Canada-to-Texas Keystone pipeline, pushing a bill that would compel approval of the project after President Obama denied a critical permit.

The Obama administration has not killed the pipeline. Rather, Obama claimed last month that Republicans did not give his administration enough time when they pushed for a permitting decision within 60 days -- the president denied that permit, presumably sidelining the issue at the height of campaign season as the company TransCanada scrambles to reapply.

But Republicans, who have assailed Obama's decision as bad for the economy and bad for energy security, want to get the project back on the rails.

They plan to make an end run around the State Department, which typically has jurisdiction over cross-border permits, and are teeing up a committee vote for Tuesday on a bill that would do just that.

"It's time for Congress to take this decision out of the president's hands and take the politics out of a common sense pipeline that will bring economic and energy security," Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said in a statement.

Blog author's comments - The Republican lawmakers bill would give authority to approve the pipeline project to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which has been sympathetic to similar energy projects.

The Keystone pipeline should be approved, it is important to the U.S. economy and its national interest. Keystone XL remains the best option for producers to supply crude oil to U.S. Gulf Coast Refineries.

The U.S. consumes 15 million barrels of oil each day and imports 10 to 11 million barrels per day. So, a secure supply of crude oil is critical to U.S. energy security. This project would also put approximately 13,000 Americans to work to construct the pipeline.

Barack Obama does not want this pipeline project for our country. He also does not want to upset the environmentalists. He continues to give money to 'green' energy companies. Those of us who have been paying attention have seen what a failure they have been.

GOP Rep. Walked Out On Obama's Speech

GOP lawmaker walked out on Obama's
speech at National Prayer Breakfast

The Hill -- Republican Rep. Phil Gingrey (Ga.) walked out of President Obama's speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, his spokeswoman confirmed to The Hill.

Jen Talaber said the five-term lawmaker "left quietly" in the middle of the president's remarks.

“He was disturbed and offended by the president’s use of prayer and reflection time for partisan politics and class warfare,” Talaber said. “Rep. Gingrey enjoyed listening to the keynote speaker and found the breakfast to be inspiring until President Obama began politicking.”

At the breakfast, Obama tried to tie some of the proposals from his State of the Union address, such as everyone paying their fair share in taxes, to Biblical teachings.

Talaber said Gingrey listened to several minutes of the speech before he “slipped out.” He found the perceived politicking “inappropriate.”

Blog author's comments - I would have been out of there before Rep. Gingrey. It won't take long for the usual Democrats to declare that Gingrey is a racist for his failure to stay and listen to Obama play politics.
